Most interested in ranges north of the city, but would like to hear of any you like around Columbus. VERY much interested in ones that allow shooting steel, and have in place steel rifle gongs/targets. Longer the range the better.

Thanks for the tips.

There is a 1000 yard range near Zanesville that I have heard about but not been to personally. That would be about an hour east of Columbus. I will have to dig around and find the business card, one of their RSO's told me about it at a gunshop and it sounded as though they keep rifle plates out at known distances and everything is ready to go.

There really isn't much available close to the city that I am aware of unless you want to use an indoor range. LEPD guns is very nice but pretty small, and typical indoor range rules but its on the north side of town.

Blackwing Shooting Center is also north of Columbus, but they're outdoor range is strictly shotgun games as far as I know. The indoor is nice but usually crowded, and again, typical indoor range rules and targets.

ODNR has an outdoor range at alum creek that you can shoot at after buying a permit online ($5 a day, or maybe $25 for a year). Its outdoor and you supply your own targets. On the rifle range you will need a target stand as well as targets. I only went once and didn't try taking any steel with me, not sure how that would go over. Might be worth contacting them. They do keep a range officer there but they just sit in a booth and its up to you to coordinate cease fires and what not with the other shooters. I wouldn't want to go there when it was very crowded and I would take a friend, one places targets while the other watches the line for idiots.

I think to find anything else you will be looking at private clubs.
