THE RULES
You will fire 10 shots onto the approved target listed which for this challenge will be a A-23 50 yd small bore rifle target for both the 50 yd and 100 yd classes. Scoring will be scored by adding up the score for all 10 shots. A shot touching a line counts as the next numbering up. For instance if a shot touches the line separating the 7 and 8 the score is a 8. A X counts as 10 points.

The target used will be a A-23 50 yd small bore rifle target. You can download the target at the link provided or get your own elsewhere. You may use any color target or put a sticker in the center X circle if you want to help aiming as long as it fits correct but whatever A-23 target you use it has to have a X ring.
I haven't test printed the target yet, will do so Monday but it should print and fit based on size.

You may submit as many targets as you wish provided it was shot with a different firearm. One target submission per firearm is allowed within the class so you can enter the same firearm once in each class if it qualifies.

The cutoff date for submissions is the last day of April

Please submit targets even if you don't think they'll win as the information on how well what shoots may be valuable to other members

Good luck and good shooting:)

Any questions such as how to post pics or qualifying firearms, or links to possible target downloads please feel free to ask.
Moderators can we get a sticky on this

Lionking - is this a continuation of the Jan/Feb Postal, or is that all thru, and this is a new iteration? Now I know why you are the Lion King!

So, can classes 3, 4, and 5 not use a rear bag?

no rear rests, bags or stabilizing tools or items can be used for the rear, butt stock must be shouldered, however class 3 4 and 5 front end of rifle can be stabilized using rest, bags or bi-pod unless you want to shoot prone instead or however you think you will shoot best.

You can take as many tries as wanted and post your best target only per class and per rifle.

Lionking, you'll have to message one of the moderators to get this posted as a sticky. Looking forward to trying this, hopefully some snow melts soon, should be pretty challenging.

For those watching the Jan/Feb match, look it over quickly, I've put in the request to pull the sticky.

My first entry and also one I probably couldn't repeat.

Fine Figure of a Man
Class; 3
Score; 99
Gun; J.C. Higgins Model 30
Ammo; CCI Blazer
3/2/19

The rifle was my Grandpa's, then Dad's. I remember the day Dad bought the Weaver D4 for $7.00 in the early 70's
Somewhere along the way one of the mount screws was lost, Dad fixed it o_O. He was a master angler and a hunter when the fishing was poor.
The mounts will move on the dovetail about a quarter inch so I push it forward before shooting. There is a blurry double vision thing going on with it too, might be time for a better scope.

I'm in for Class 1. Why no sticky? With 5 classes, most probably opting for class 3 and 4, 1 month seems short. Is it too late to add April?

greetings,

I have a Winchester M52, but do not know what model it is.
It doesn't have a rail, so it is a pre "D".
Would that be a "competition" rifle?

Well I took out two targets to the range, along with my Savage 93 HMR17 Tuesday, the day before I had to have cataracts and stigma corrective surgery to my left eye, needless to say a 91 and 93, just don't cut it, using CCI V-Max 17 grain ammo on my second 93, and using Hornady 20grain XTP on the 91 on my first attempt.. Anyway in less than 2 weeks I have to have the same procedure done on my right eye, however I have to wait at least 5 days before I can even attempt to shoot again. So I'm quite happy about this going into April. Incidentally I just rested the rifle on it's bi-pod.

Merle does it look like the one in this link?

When I said competition specialized grade .22 I meant more along the lines of something like the highly tuned anschutz , I'm not schooled on all the competition grade rifles so I leave it to members to know their rifle in some cases but if it looks like a Luke Skywalker special that could take out Darth Vaders eye at hundreds of yards well, probably best enter it in class 5 only lol.

it's closer to the bottom one, but does not have that rail on the underside of the stock.
also, the barrel is nowhere near as heavy.
it has the scope blocks, but wears only iron sights.
it most definitely is not a M52 Sporter - it is a target rifle.
the reason I am asking, is that I "thought" each of the models A, B, C were the king of the hill until the D models (that you have pictured) came out and eclipsed them all.

I'm sure it is no match for an Anschutz, etc - but it should be a step above a typical sporter and I didn't want an unfair advantage.

I believe the Win 52 is a peer to the Mosberg M44 and M144, and I can't remember the Rem rifle. Good competition guns of thier period, but not an Anschutz based on mod 54 action. Maybe that's the answer, anything on the Anschutz 54 action is cat 5?

The debate on old vs new rifles, or what is a true competition .22 rifle could start a long thread, based on what you told me I don't think it is class 5. I doesn't have a heavy match barrel, I'm guessing it wasn't tuned up by a specialist , and diopter sights I don't see a overly huge advantage based on having used them before.

If it was something like the competition grade custom shop Ruger 10/22 I might lean toward saying class 5 but my decision is yours is not class 5.
