I’ve read lots of review about Taurus’s Model 82 revolvers; and nearly all of them are prior to 2012 and bad. I’ve searched for more recent reviews to see if Taurus ever worked out the issues that were described: rough/gritty action, timing issues, cylinders not lining up with forcing cone, accuracy, ....

Does anyone know if the Model 82s still have issues, or have they worked them out? I have a five year old Taurus 85 that I love, and it works perfectly. I was considering an 82 before I read these bad reviews.

I can't help you with the new model 82's. I have a 1992 stainless Taurus Model 82 that I picked up a few years ago for $180 at a local Cabelas. The fit and finish on the revolver are excellent and it shoots as well as any of my S&W 38's.

The older Taurii that I've owned that were made from the early/mid 1980's until 1990 or so have been better guns than the newer ones.

The OP might be better off finding a nice used one. It would probably be inexpensive.

I don’t know what year mine is, but it has been a good shooter and no problems.
Taurus reinstated their lifetime warranty, so any issues on a new one will be covered.

Thanks guys. I know there are a few lemons in everything that’s made. I guess that’s what I was seeing; just the bad reports. I think I might try one of these. At least with the lifetime warranty they will fix it if there is something wrong.

It's best if you can check the gun over in person prior to purchase. You should know what you are looking for when you are buying whether it is new or used. I own a couple Taurus revolvers and have been happy with them. About 6 years back I was working part time at a friends gun shop and we received a shipment of New Taurus Trackers. 6 guns and we sent every one of them back. It is those types of experiences that can ruin the reputation of a manufacturer. These 6 however were NOT representative of Taurus in general.

It simply shows that bad things can happen, and they do for every brand out there. My brothers new Smith & Wesson Model 69 he purchased not real long after they came to market was a total mess. It went back to the factory and the cylinder, hammer, trigger were all replaced along with some other work. It is best like I said to check a new or used gun over so one doesn't have the hassle of having to return it.

Online reviews are hard to judge a product by in many ways. Unhappy consumers yell the loudest about a products fault or personal disatisfaction while the happy masses go about their normal life with little mention of the same product. Is this a fair accessment to a products quality or usefulness? In my opinion no. In regards to Taurus firearms.. I have owned about 6 or 7 over the years, still own 3 and none had any issues or had to be sent back for any warrenty work.

The only Taurus firearm that I’ve had that was any good was a late 80’s 92 9mm. All the others have been junk. I’ve really tried to like them but of the 6 revolvers I’ve owned all of them had issues. Timing off, bad crown, wouldn’t shoot double action and I had a 22 rifle that was a jam-o-matic. I understand now that Taurus bought Rossi so there goes there reproduction 92’s!

I have a stainless 82, probably about 30 years old now. Used it for everything from training dogs with primed cases to killing rats. Never actually checked the accuracy until about a year ago. It has a canted barrel and shoots high left. I think it's always been that way. I've had this one so long it's like an old friend but I don't think I would ever buy another one.

A guy at work has the 5 shot version. One of the chambers is too small for a cartridge to fit in. Can't figure out how the factory managed to screw that one up.
