Anyone ever heard of putting a funnel in the bottom of your case tumbler? I read it on another page and was curious if it worked better with it than without it

Like this.. it is supposed to make more of a vortex therefore cleaning the brass in less time. Wasn't sure if anyone had tried it. Screenshot_20190310-012633_YouTube.jpg

If you want to speed up your tumbler, you might want to try it without the lid on. I’m not recommending it, its dusty. But if you don’t care about breathing in a bunch of that pesky lead saturated dust, it is a lot faster.

Just put it outside without the lid like I do.

Now I get it. I have a Hornady tumbler and the bowl is shaped like it has a funnel in the center. I thought other tumblers were the same, guess I never looked at any.
The funnel will cause the brass to roll in the media, probably does clean faster.

I'm new to vibratory tumblers, I bought my first one last Black Friday sale. It is a Hornady and has the funnel inverted in the center, molded right into it, like you did with putting a funnel in your bowl.
My tumbler rotates the brass to the top and back to the bottom, over and over again.
I wasn't aware that they made them any other way. I'm used to rotary's.
Yes, it has to make a big difference vs a flat bottom. I was amazed at how mine moves the brass around.
Mine is Hornady's small vibratory tumbler and even if I put 200 9 mm in it I see them coming to the top and diving again in a constant cycle. That agitation has to speed up the cleaning/polishing process.

If it makes you feel better, great, but it won’t increase agitation. It’s on the minor velocity end of the system, where the bulk flow field is downward. #pseudosciencemustdie

I have 2 vibe tumblers, 1 has a flat bottom bowl and 1 with a more bunt cake shape(without the ridges), like yours with that funnel.
The bunt cake shaped bowl has a faster rolling/churning media/brass action.
No pic of my tumbler so here's a bunt cake pan :uhoh:

edit: looking at your pic, you could benefit from a bigger funnel and a washer/nut against it to hold it down.
That, and a boat load of DIY tumblers have been built using a bowl with an inverted funnel in it.

Of the tumblers I have had, they all had good movement of the cases. Between the round of the outer wall, to the slant (Funnel) of the middle part, they get good down movement in the middle, and back up on the outer walls, creating a circular movement inside to outside.

On my tumbler the threaded rod that the wing nut for holding the lid on also has a wing nut for retaining the bowl. If the wing nut for the bowl loosens, and it occasionally does, greatly reduces the agitation.

You need to get you a couple of wellnuts:

I have two tumblers that I run with corncob media, Nu-Finish car polish and a dryer sheet in. One tumbler is an old Midway round blue bowel one where the center of the bowel is shaped like a funnel. The other tumbler is the newer Frankfort Arsenal tumbler with the flatter bottom. The Midway tumbler moves the brass around and has a lot better brass flow then the Frankfort but the Frankfort seems to vibrate the individual kernels of corn cob more. In the end they both clean about the same, When I have large quantity's of brass to clean I'll fill both tumblers and run them for 2 hours, when finished I can't tell the difference between the brass coming out of either one.

Adding Nu-Finish car polish and a dry sheet to the tumbling media takes care of any dust issue. With new media I'll add a couple cap fulls the first few times I tumble brass to get a base then add a little about every third time thereafter. I don't really measure the wax but just drizzle it in while the tumbler is running. Make sure theirs no wax stuck to the center cone of the tumbler before adding brass and break up any clumps of wax with your fingers before adding brass. A dryer sheet helps collect the media dust and black grim in the tumbler prolonging the life of the media. I run my media until its past green in color.
