Recently picked up a Lipsey's special Single-six with a 4 5/8" barrel. I've had .22 revolvers in the past, but they got sold or traded over the years. I needed a good wheelgun for plinking. I've only gotten out to shoot it once, but I was able to do pretty well with it. My only complaint is the grips. They look nice, but the fit to the frame is pretty poor. I've noticed that this seems to be common on the Single-sixes.

Those look great. They appear to fit just right also.

I liked the older Single six grips when they were walnut, and thicker. I think they now call them the 'cowboy' grips.

My Single Six above came with the thinner laminate grips I believe they call the 'gunfighter' grips.

The Hogue micarta follows the size of the older, thicker 'cowboy' style grip, which I prefer.

The Single Six is one of the best 22 revolvers you can get. I really like shooting 22 mags through mine. I have two of them. One made in 1961 that belonged to my grandad and a new made around 2005 IIRC. Just darn good guns. I would like to have another one in Stainless Steel with 5.5" barrel. If you ever get the chance pick up one in 32 mag. I promise you will like it. But you better be a reloader if you get one.

If you don't like your grips the world is full of after market grips to fit those guns.

I've had two Single Sixes and have liked them both a lot. My current is a 6.5" with the thicker wooden grips. It's a great shooter. The OP did well.

My old six inch was the most accurate rimfire revolver I'd owned and I even (ugh) scoped it. I wished up, put the scope on my 17 Tracker, and am happy with both.

I picked up some Hogue micarta grips for mine. They are thicker, and needed a little final fitting. Great grips.

Shane, Kudos on that group! Was that offhand at 25 yards? I thought I was doing fairly well yesterday offhand with 4” group at 25 yards! I guess I better practice some more!

I have two, a flat gate and a 6” ss. The ss is my go to plinker!

Thanks, yes I was standing, Two-handed, modified Weaver.

For me there's something really nice about the balance and shootability of the 6.5" with the steel grip frame. I had a 4 5/8" with the aluminum grip frame years ago, it was nice, but I can shoot the steel 6.5 much better.

6.5" with the steel grip is my favourite as well. The steel really balances it much better than the aluminum. I never feel like the blued/aluminum grip frames balance as well, though they do capture "the look" better than stainless.

Are the barrels still 0.01 oversized for the 22 mag, at the expense of 22lr? I've never been willing to get one for that reason, though I'd love one.

love me some single six's! i have 2 one made in either 57 or 58 it has a 5 1/2'' barrel the other one is a super single six with a 22 mag cylinder and a 6 1/2'' barrel made in 73

I've been looking into these grips for my black hawk and single six (keeping matching grips for training). I have the eagle gunfighters now. I liked then at first but now find them too thin. Do you have a pic of the hogues from the rear? How wide are they?

I think so. All I know is that mine shot LR more accurately than Mag. Explain that!

OEM Ruger grips do not comfortably fit my hands. I tried Pachmeyer and Hogue rubber grips...comfortable but ugly. Then I purchased a used pair of Bearpaw grips (Ebay lists them) and WOW, what a discovery. Fat at the top, skinny at the bottom (sometimes referred to as "gunfighter grips"). They are beautiful, ergonomically exceptional...and pricey. But, for me, WELL worth the price. But if you are patient (as I have been twice), you can happen across used ones for half price or better. Be sure to double check that the grips are fitted to your particular Ruger frame. (Top to bottom 1981 6-1/2" New Model Blackhawk .357, 1982 4-5/8" New Model Blackhawk 9mm/.357 Convertible, 1977 4-5/8" New Model Single Six .22/.22mag Convertible.)

My 6.5” SSS convertible also has standard walnut grips that are a bit proud at the top, and it has that edged lip on the inside of the top of the grip’s arc that just doesn’t feel right.

If I were to take a small block and some 400 then 600 grit sandpaper to the panels to round off the sharp lip, what would I use to then refinish the sanded parts to match the factory finish on the rest of the grips?

Stay safe.
