I've never attached a rail light and or laser to my Walther PPQ. I'm 20190310_075533.jpg 20190310_080828.jpg a bit concerned about some type of products damaging the polymer rail; or does that just come with the territory when working with polymer rails? Any suggestions based on experience for rail lights, light/laser combo or lasers?

On a side note, awhile back I purchased XS Big Dot sights for my PPQ, both front and rear are green night sights. LOL, yes, its that time in life for Big Dot sights.

Say for example, chewing up the polymer after clamping the metal device to the rail.

The only time I ever "chewed" up a rail, was intentionally. On my P99 I used a cross cut file and a few different grits of sandpaper to add a rail segment closer to the trigger guard.

With that out of the way, there are many next questions. Are you concerned your device overhanging from the barrel? Do you want a light, laser, or both? Red or green laser? Lumen of the light?

If you answer with no to overhang, bright light, and green laser, the best thing I can recommend is the Viridian X5L Gen 3 model.

We're very satisfied with the TLR-8 on our PPQs.

Thank you for this information, its much appreciated. I have no experience with weapon lights. I watched a review that indicated a certain type of SureFire light chewed chunks out of the rail. The cost of good rail light and or laser is considerable thus I wanted to get it right the first time. If I was dealing with a metal rail I'd tend to be more experimental.

The TLR-8 is available through Amazon for about $110. You can order a holster to fit a TLR-8 equipped PPQ from Theis Holsters. The all kydex IWB holster is about $90 ($60 base price + $30 to fit the TLR-8).

We have the standard Theis holsters and plan to order holsters to fit the TLR-8 as our budget allows.

I like the Theis IWB holster and have been using one to carry the PPQ daily for two or three years now.

Hello herrwalther,

All good questions, honestly I'm not sure yet. This inquiry on the forum is all part of my research. If I employed a light and or laser it would not be for concealed carry but rather used for home defense and car gun.

I see no reason not to EDC the PPQ equipped with a TLR-8.

Hi MistWolf,

I believe your question makes good sense. In fact, why didn't I purchase a long slide PPQ since I wasn't planning on utilizing this type of pistol for EDC? Well, I might consider a long slide sometime in the future. Although I'm not sure I would want to expend any more funds on this particular line of pistols. I have other long barrel handguns. But that said, I hold the PPQ in high regard and over years I've owned nearly every pistol from the major European manufacturers. I decided on a compact 4 inch barrel PPQ for its versatility. If circumstances dictated, I could conceal it and not just on my person but in many other places where my larger guns won't go. But...it won't fit in my trouser front pocket along with a pocket holster. It's just not that kind of gun. These things are extremely subjective and over the decades I've found what works for me. I'm more comfortable concealing smaller pistols.

Hello Bill Raby,

I have no experience with weapon lights or lasers. Do you think a laser is not useful on a handgun?

What your saying is, when you carry concealed, it's pocket carry. Yes, the PPQ is a bit large for pocket carry!

I thought the reason you weren't planning to carry the PPQ was due to the light. I thought you carried a PPQ without a light.

I think they are ridiculous.

I would think laser be more useful than stupid tritium "night sights" especially under certain circumstances like when weapon is ankle carried. The only thing night sights are good for is finding gun in the dark provided they are new enough to glow adequately.

Gone are the days where lasers were big and incompatible with holsters. A carry gun with a light and laser can pull many duties along with car gun and home defense. Mine does. Walther P99 with Viridian C5L.

We're very satisfied with the TLR-8 on our PPQs.

I am gathering the TLR-8 is pretty new. From what I have seen, I am rather impressed. Green, 500 Lumen and not very long. I may end up getting one and stick the C5L on my PPS.

^^^That makes two of us.

^^^I won one, not sure of the exact model (I think it's a TLR-4), in a raffle and have no idea what I'm going to do with it.

Correction- We have the TLR-7 (light only) and we're very satisfied.

Fits good, very bright, but I sold all of my PPQs.

Thanks to one and all for your time and help with my research; much appreciated. Streamlight products seem very solid for the money and the TRL-8 looks like a sound option.
