So does anyone get annoyed at YT videos that are 20 minutes long with 4 minutes of product view? I now go out of my way to read text/pic reviews of products, but alas, sometimes 30 seconds of a visual representation is worth it. But 20 minutes is not.

I wanted to see how a red dot looked on a pistol but had to FF through a dozen minutes of blabbing about nonsensical stuff. Anyone else?

If it’s over 10 minutes, generally, they’ve lost. I prefer 5. I also need the who/what/when/where/why in the first minute or I’m done.

I do the have capability to focus for things like movies and books, but for news/reviews/etc I need it brief so I can decide what else I want to look into or not.

Yup, most of the reviews I've seen are pretty unwatchable. hickock45, MAC Channel, forgotten weapons, Iraqveteren8888(for the most part), demolitionranch (mainly just for entertainment value) are pretty good for the "feature length" YT videos. You can watch nutnfancy, but you'll never get that hour of your life back

I watch several youtube channels and have for years. I dont watch the drawn out junk with little to no real info, thats most.some videos must be an hour and the production and editing make them great to watch - C&Rsenal is that way. It really all depends .
Hour videos can be great, usually not however.

I cant watch demolition ranch (recent videos), too much ads , products, singing and nonsense. I prefer my nonsense from carnikcon or mattv2099 - sadly neither produce content anymore.
Forgottenweapons is a top 5 channel for me.
Yankeemarshall is probably my least favorite popular youtube gun expert.
True, you will never get your nutnfancy hour back, his videos could be done in 5 minutes but you get a half hour of look at my awesome watch, this model airplane, a bunch of things not related to the review. I still watch though.
I really like paulharrell.

I really like paulharrell.

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!

WINNER!!!!!!!!

You beat me to it, but Paul Harrell is probably the best, and most underrated, gun guy on the internet.

There very fact that he has only 1/4 million subscribers and Hickock45 has nearly 4 million...a.) pisses me off and b.)kills my faith in humanity.

I really wish Harrell would run a firearms training program like Gunsite or something.

Hickok45....is a joke
Hickok45 makes videos for mass consumption, no thinking required. Trouble is hes been at it so long its very predictable , shoot the gong, shoot the cowboy...shoot the pot...see how big it is compared to a glock . I still watch and i think it is still a decent channel compared to what else is out there.
I like mark serbus stuff, good for a laugh and proof hes nuts. Taofledermaus is always good. Lifesizepotato made some good videos but rarely puts any out now. MannyCA is a good no bs channel and its to the point and accurate. The real gunsmith has some good content but its a bit dry. Another favorite is the anvil series on C&Rsenal, excellent content.
If you can survive watching demolition ranch or fpsrussia or fullmag or yankee marshall youre a stronger man than me. That is pure garbage.

Print media will always have a niche of the market. That's why I never went to YT or similar. Its a lot more difficult to stay fresh with video vs putting that capital into getting more guns / gear. For those who manage to pull it off and rack up views I applaud them but I definitely wouldn't want that pressure with my full time job. An ammo sponsor and T&E provider puts a lot of pressure to put out a high quality presentation complete with sponsor shout-outs. Considering viewership metrics, I think there's a lot of temptation to make entertainment over pure info because that's what brings in clicks. You're going to win over the masses with melon massacres far more than you would with detailed explanations of lock work and the like.

Hickok45....is a joke

Obviously from Kentucky.

I find myself going to hickok45 mostly because of the sheer amount of content he has. There are very few guns I am interested which he has not covered once or even twice. Plus I like the older versions he usually personally owns. I would say it is not a great firearms review channel. I watch a lot of the content still for the reasons already mentioned.

Paul Harrel is my favorite too. His vids came up on my feed for awhile and I didn’t watch them because he did not have the right “look” of someone who would make good firearms videos. Glad I finally clicked.

Thanks for the pointer on Paul Harrell. Just watched a couple of them and like his approach.

I've seen several of the recommended channels mentioned here but in general I don't follow the channels per se, but seek out a review for a particular product and just go with what comes up. What prompted this thread is trying to find reviews of the Shield RMSc red dot. There are only a few, and I think only one video is halfway decent.

Part of the issue lies in the monetization scheme that YouTube runs on. Videos over X length are categorized differently than others. Some of the length is attempting to work the algorithm which leads to massive worthless padding
