My local gun shop had a couple of NIB Beretta FS92 Compacts. These are originals built in Italy sans the rail found on the new models which are built in Maryland. Pounced on it for $429 which I thought was a pretty good price for the gun. I'm gravitating more to hammer fired autos. At my age, I've become sort of a test market for some of my shooting friends. I'm also banning myself from buying any striker fired guns. I pick it up on Saturday, the photo is for reference. l2_pistols_fs__beretta_92fs_compact_9mm__104678 (1).jpg

I've found that there are two worthwhile modifications for the Beretta 92FS (at least for me):

The first is to substitute the 92D hammer spring (it's about 1/2 inch shorter than the FS spring). This lightens the DA trigger pull noticeably while still retaining the margin of safety.

Secondly, I replaced the "hammer release lever" with the spacer from the 92D. This removes the automatic decocking function. With the pistol on safe, you can decock the hammer by pulling the trigger. Or, you can leave it cocked. Take it off safe to fire in the single action mode.

I think it is a fair price. The gun has been in production for a while and is a proven design.

One of my local gun shops had the same deal, but I went for the M9A3 for $799.00 instead. Very glad too!
That gun shop/range was also selling the 92FS for $429.00 and the 9m.m. Cx4 Carbine for $599.00. It was a difficult decision
.
I have shot the Compact in the past and I like it. The grips actually fits my average size hand better than the full size 92FS and I think the shorter slide/barrel make it more comfortable to carry concealed. They shoot just as well as the full size models in my experience.
I think BERETTA is probably clearing out pistols that they will discontinue in the near future. So if you get it, make sure you order some extra 13 round magazines. The 8 round magazines from the 92CM are going for up to $100.00 each with the scalpers for original BERETTA made magazines.

Beretta actually released a batch last year.. They limited customers to 2 each.. Course that just meant multiple purchases... :)

I picked on of these up a month or so back. Shoots great, seems a little heavy for carry but I honestly haven't tried it. Need to buy a holster and thinner grips and give it a go.

True story, Beretta offered to upgrade all the US Army M9's for $50 bucks a pistol. Sig got the Army contract for $200 a pistol with the new M17. Taxpayers get screwed again!

Trigger pull consistency is what you get with the M17.
...and less weight, and a modular chassis so you can change the grip size for different applications and hand sizes.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather own a Beretta 92 than a SIG P320, but the M17 gives them more flexibility.

Comparing two Compacts. My P229 and the FS Compact. Obviously, the Beretta may be the largest so-called Compact on the market. I plan on shooting the FS92 Compact on Tuesday. unnamed (9).jpg unnamed (8).jpg

I was thinking about switching to the compact 92 for EDC, but I
chose the XD-9 SC instead; (I think) it carries and shoots better,
(also cheaper).
