I wandered into a local shop yesterday, not looking for anything in particular, just bored. Spotted a decent looking I frame... a model 34 that looked good under the glass; with at least 80% finish. I didn't ask to handle it, but came home instead to scope what they're going for on gunbroker.

The upshot: these were selling for anything from $400 up to over $1K.

The LGS is asking $800. Assuming it's mechanically perfect and has decent finish, I'm inclined to return, checkbook in hand.

Please, talk me out of this! I already have a 17-1 and it's nearly mint. But it's not cute! :uhoh:

Another "Pass".

Way too pricey for one in 80% condition. I was looking for a .22 revolver as a gift for my wife as she never had a handgun before and happened upon this one at my local gun shop. It was LNIB and I got it for just a little over $400.

This was some years back but you never know what you're going to find out there. I would keep looking.

My old cowboy friend says " what good is money? You cant eat it, ride it, drink it, smoke it, or shoot it"
If you want it, buy it.
I like having s local gunship that I can run to and buy ammo, components, or ship a gun in or out.
If your local gun shop get $100 out of it, then so be it. Maybe he'll be there next year for you.

You didn't say what barrel length but I say they are around $200 too high for a 80% gun. Around here the 2" will generally bring a little more than the 4" but even then only about $50 more. If it was something I really wanted, I would walk in and lay the cards on the table. Offer $600 OTD cash (cards are a turn off) and be prepared for a counter offer. I think $650 is top dollar even if it is a gun you want.
