My M&P Shield Magically Morphed into a CZ 75D Compact

Been doing a lot of thinking about holsters. A great gun deserves a great holster, methinks. Front-runners right at the moment are IWBs from either Boriqua Leather or Black Arch Protos-M. Decisions, decisions ...

To me, a CZ-75 compact calls for a more elegant holster, maybe a little exotic ... trimmed in elephant or shark perhaps?

The Shield as part of the S&W MP series is a cost effective tool. I don't see weapons as an art form or the requirement to be pleasing to the eye, as functionality as a beauty all of its own. At often quoted self-defense distances the Shield is accurate enough, should the shooter do their part. The Glock is not pleasing to the eye either but extensively used by law enforcement and militaries around the world.
Don’t be offended by my comments. The shield has its place in the ccw world and has excelled in that market because it’s a good single stack polymer sub compact handgun that does everything it needs to do well. However, what makes you think I was referring to the cz as an art form pleasing to the eye over functionality? That’s the beauty of cz’s, they are as functional as aesthetically pleasing. The shield is a good gun for a good price, but if you break a pcr and shield down side by side it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see which gun is made with more precision and quality. It’s sort of like the old car metaphors, a Honda and Porsche both with get you from point A to point B, but the Porsche will do it with more style and with better performance because the parts are of better quality. Clumsy example, but it holds true. Apples to oranges here because really a pcr and a shield are totally different handguns in not only design but function as well.

Things like this make me miss my PCR.
It was just a little thick, but I'm lightweight and long-limbed, it's impossible to find a shirt that isn't a little loose if it's the right length.
That comes with fingers to match, and I shoot from the pad instead of the joint, so I don't have a problem with the trigger reach so many stump-digited folk seem to. IMO, the PCR is just about the perfect 9mm.

Wow, this is one hard thread to view. Who in their right mind would not want to run out and by a CZ. Some really nice guns. Thanks for all the post. Should have bought one years ago. My Little Brother was right all along when he told me to get one so many years ago.

No I'm not a rocket scientist, but I do have multiple engineering patents issued in the United States and South Africa. The S&W-MP & Shield series, is a cost effective and efficient design to manufacture thus produce.

So is glock, XD, p10, ppq and (plug your favorite polymer striker fired gun here). I actually had an m&p9 and it was a good gun, just not special in any way in my personal opinion so I sold it. Just to name few things that didn’t tickle my fancy; I didn’t really shoot it exceptionally accurate, it wasn’t that ergonomic in my hand, and the trigger was subpar (although an upgrade would be an easy task). My p01 is a higher quality pistol than the m&p9 I had. I have an m&p15 that’s been outstanding and for the price you get a lot of AR with the s&w brand name to stand behind it. I’ll say this again and maybe you won’t try to argue against what I’m saying because what I’m saying is a true statement. M&p’s are good guns that do well for what they are intended to do. However, the metal framed cz p01/pcr’s are made with a tad bit more quality and workmanship. They both get the job done, but the pcr is a higher quality pistol than m&p just like the Sphinx is a higher quality pistol than the Cz. Now if you compare the cz p10 with a m&p then it’s about a wash, if not the m&p with a slight edge in my opinion. I’m in no way looking to take away anything from the m&p line of pistols, they work well and I would trust one with my life if I owned one. My rocket scientist quote was more of expression meaning any Joe can examine both pistols side by side and inside out and come to the same conclusion that I stated, the cz is a higher quality pistol. That was not meant to ridicule. I don’t see what engineering patents have to do with this discussion unless you have patents on the pcr and m&p, but ok that’s great. I’m really not trying to argue here, there’s really nothing to debate.

My LGS has a Facebook page on which they post specials, new arrivals, and the like. Checking over FB with my morning coffee, I saw that they had a CZ 75D Compact (CZ's current name for the PCR) in stock. Knowing how fast these can fly off the shelf, I was a little dismayed to see that the post was two hours old, but I called anyway, and sweet relief they still had it! Well, now they don't. . . . . I traded in my M&P Shield 9mm to defray part of the cost . . . .
I have a 9mm Shield, and it's a great pistol, but . . . . The one and only CZ I've ever shot was a 75D Compact and after one magazine, all I could think was, "Oh. NOW I get it!" It was ergonomically fantastic. I won't be trading in my Shield, but if I found a 75D Compact at a time when I had enough cheese in my pocket, I sure wouldn't mind trading that cheese for the gun.

Congratulations!

I won't be trading in my Shield

If I had my druthers, I would have kept my Shield, too, but I sort of had a tacit agreement with "The Bookkeeper" that the one had to go to make room for the other. I didn't really mean to rub any Shield owners out there the wrong way. I carried mine for four years and it was totally reliable. I just like my CZs better, that's all.

You certainly didn't hurt my feelings. Just because I like my Shield doesn't mean you can't like something better.

I have a similar agreement with Mrs. McGee, so I totally get it.

The Shield was at one time thought by a good many a person to be the best CCW single stack out there. And still is a great CCW pistol. I had one purchased when they first came out, but didn't particularly care for the narrowness of the back of the grip, it had me constantly re-acquiring my grip between shots. Personal preferences always start to win out when speaking about the gun one's life could depend on and the gun that gets used and carried the most.

The Mec Gar magazines are top quality and fit flush. If you have small hands you won’t notice the floor plate against your pinkie, but I would carry one with the factory floor plate as a reload. Less chance of a pinched finger.

I was fortunate to find a set of the discontinued Crimson Trace lazergrips for mine, and I added night sights. It’s pretty close to the perfect carry gun if you want a double stack.

I have been spending hours and hours it seems online contemplating possible upgrades to my PCR: trigger job, tuning, new sights, new grips -- so much to think about! I think my ideal grips may be as much of a grail item as my grail gun formerly was. I like the look of light-colored wood on a blued pistol, and I also like engraving, like a floral pattern. Haven't found anything yet that completely fits that bill yet, but the search is part of the fun. Though I think I might possibly have looked at every PCR pic on the internet at this point, and all the usual replacement grip sites, too! Okay, back to the research ...

I have ordered a single-clip IWB holster from Alex Boriqua based on reviews from folks who have one. Now I have another agonizing wait to endure ...

I know that you didn't ask for suggestions, but . . . . I've used a Theis horsehide, a CBST (also horsehide) and the Stealthgear Revolution. The Revolution is far and away the most comfortable IWB I've ever used. Looking at the Stealthgear website, it doesn't look like they offer the Revolution for that pistol, but they do offer the Ventcore. It's more expensive, but also has a ventilated back of a different sort than the Revolution. The ventilated back is one of the things that makes the Revolution so comfortable.

I have a OWB holster from him. His stuff is very nice.

I had actually looked at the Stealthgear Ventcore products and similar holsters at Black Arch, but I decided to try leather this time around just to see if I like it, having never used one before.

CZs are some of the most pleasant guns to shoot to me. Nice choice, what a beauty.

I find double stack full size M&P and CZ ergos are pretty similar. Both feel great in my hand and those that like one usually like the other from my experience.

**Were the "dry fire" concerns only connected to CZ's SP-01?
Breaking the firing pin from dry firing was apparently a minor issue with the older guns, but CZ reportedly addressed it years ago. Also, if you install the CGW Ultra-Lite kit (as all of the 75Bs, 85Bs, SP-01s, P-01s, PCR, etc., SHOULD be required by law ;) to have https://cajungunworks.com/product/54420-ultra-lite/ you get a new firing pin and firing pin retainer pin, the combination of which is safe to dry fire to your heart's content.

Here are the relative sizes of full size and compact metal CZs. They are all fantastic stock, but keep getting better the more CGW parts they have. ;)

Nice family there turbo. One black sheep, but you make up for it by having 2 Kadet kits.;)

16turbo:That's quite a nice family.

Thanks for addressing the so-called firing pin issue. Even though I seldom dry fire my "larger handguns" (PCR and Sig P228), the 9mm Snap Caps seems to prevent any issue.

If I see any Czech police during two-three days there in early September, I'll ask them what they carry, and gladly mention my PCR.
Does everybody here realize that regular Czech citizens can acquire a license to carry? According to Snajdarek, the process appears far easier that what Non-VIPs (the deplorable commoners) in the city of Chicago or Wash. DC would experience.
