RMR 124gn 9mm FMJ with HP38

For my 5" guns, I need about 6 grains of Unique, 6.2 grains of Power Pistol, or 8 grains of Blue Dot to safely drive 124 grain FMJ's to 1180 fps. Will be nice to see your Sunday results, fired outside (hope you get good diffused light; I could never get good results under cover).

One trick you might try is coloring the bullets with a black sharpie, to gain better contrast over the eyes... Couldn't hurt to try one string, and see how it compares to the others. Good luck.

I think his chrono is lying to him. If everything is right with the load I also can't see that velocity being generated.

As a side note, I like 4.4gr W231 under a 124gr jacketed bullet which is very close to the 4.3gr being talked about here. For range ammo I shoot a lot of that load, for more serious work I bump it up to 4.8gr or use a slower powder.

I did a load workup on this powder and bullet combo for my (stock) G4 Glock 34 (5.3" barrel) a while back for USPSA before I switched to the RMR 147s. Used a Magnetospeed V3 chrono mounted to the rail of my G34. I ended up settling on 4.40gr @ 1.120" COAL as a final load for accuracy and felt recoil impulse.

Here is my data for the 124gr RMR Matchwinners...YMMV.

All loads using CCI #500 Small Pistol Primers, and powder dropped from a Dillon powder measure.

HP-38 @ 1.110" COAL

HP-38 - AVG FPS - Power Factor
3.80gr - 976.4 - 120.6
4.00gr - 1023.8 - 126.4
4.20gr - 1058.2 - 130.7
4.40gr - 1100.6 - 135.9
4.60gr - 1143.6 - 141.2

HP-38 @ 1.140" COAL

HP-38 - AVG FPS - Power Factor
3.80gr - 917.8 - 113.3
4.00gr - 988.4 - 122.1
4.20gr - 1015.8 - 125.5
4.40gr - 1109.4 - 137.0
4.60gr - 1116.0 - 137.8

Side note: PF listed is based on my data with weighing several of the RMR 124s and getting an average of 123.5gr 'actual' weights.

[QUOTE="bds, post: FWIW, I use 4.8 gr for RMR 115 gr FMJ loaded to 1.125"-1.130".[/QUOTE]

Are you loading Sport Pistol at 4.8 gr with the same bullet as well?

FWIW, I use 4.8 gr [W231/HP-38] for RMR 115 gr FMJ loaded to 1.125"-1.130".

No. Most of my 380Auto/9mm/40S&W/45ACP reference loads are not max loads, except for 9mm 115 gr FMJ which needs to be pushed near max for optimal accuracy.

Sport Pistol has worked well matching most of my W231/HP-38 loads but I have found higher velocities from Sport Pistol so 115 gr FMJ is the exception. As the rain season breaks sporadically, I plan to resume further testing with Sport Pistol.

Finally went back out and shot these again. I ran them through my 5.2" Canik TP9SFX and my Sig P228 to compare speed with a shorter barrel. Below are the results.

I don't load 9mm/HP-38 much, but I will add my RMR reference data since everybody is sharing. This load is for the RMR 124gr Match Winner bullet with a flat nose, thus the shorter COL of 1.065". The groupings I saw with HP-38 wasn't great, but OK. It seems everybody liked the 4.3gr load, but for me the 4.5gr load performed better and probably better load to safely make minor PF:

9mm, SP2022, 3.9"
Case: Blazer
COL: 1.065"

Grouping @ 15yd: 1.48"
Test Date: 09/15/2017

Looks like you are picking up a bit of vel due to the longer barrel in the Canik, and it looks like a fast barrel as well.
