Just a heads up, AIM has new Colt marked 30 rd. mags for sale, $16. I've seen them go for much more, so this seems like a decent price.

Here's a link: https://aimsurplus.com/usgi-colt-223-5-56-30rd-ar-m16-magazines

As an aside, I've never understood why much surplus sold is new, only to be replaced by the military with more of the same. Obviously nothing wrong with these mags, but they will be buying more to replace them.

Is this just lobbying by military contractors to keep the money flowing?

These mags aren’t just being replaced with more of the same. They are being phased out and the new Emhanced Performance Magazine (EPM)is being bought.
From what I understand, the new EPM is for the newish M855a1 aka Enhanced Performance Round (EPR).
Over time the tip of the EPR wears grooves in the feed ramps so the new EPM is designed to present the EPR at a greater angle thus eliminating the wear on the feed ramps.
I’ve heard gen 3 Pmags do the same thing.

Are they completely different magazines, or are just the plastic followers different?

I ordered 5 of them this morning to go with the restricted roll marked Colt I picked up. Wanted to keep a colt family together
Well dam, when I was trying to place the order the website screwed up and I thought the order never went through and I never got the confirmation email.
Then while ago I got two emails saying both orders have already been shipped. Guy said since they shipped and already had tracking numbers he couldn’t stop it. Oh well. .... I’ll probably end up keeping them all or sell some for a profit.

I have Colt 20 and 30 round mags from the '70s (some are marked .223 while others are 5.56). Load them minus 2 and while they're a little worn on the outside all of them still work perfectly.
