Online retailer won't ship to Illinois

Your prerogative, but those of us in Anti Gun states need firearms and related products too. I find it frustrating when I am refused something that is completely legal in the state. Say like a single shot rifle. Should I be punished for the liberal gun control laws that don't effect the item being sold. I can't just pick up and move, although I would like too. Just like the person posting who can't get a mag that is perfectly legal in his area, but can't because people will not sell to him.
There are no local gun shops at all? There is nowhere near you that sells those things? Now that's a great business opportunity then, you'd have little to no internet competition.

BSA1 Said "I don't follow your reason. Why risk selling anything to a out-of-state customer?"

Cuz its his job? But I think its a little different for a salesman behind a counter vs a large online company. Have someone do the research and make many more sales vs risk irritating the internet tribes and causing sales to collapse by driving customers to other companies. If the sale was big enough I'd imagine our friend Theo may just look up the specific laws pertaining to that sale.

The job of anyone is to make their company more money with less hassle. In most cases that involves making customers happy. If some state passes enough laws to make it really hard to follow all of them it's easier and beneficial to the bottom line to simply wave the white flag, surrender and do business with people who live in a state that doesn't make it difficult to do business there. I have looked at the Gifford site and used their data and been corrected as their data wasn't up to date. It's difficult to make sure that the information a company is basing their decision on a pending deal is correct.
The bigger the sale the louder the boom if someone steps on a legal land mine. It's a big risk, and obviously the bigger the company the greater that risk.

There are not as many as one would like. Many things are not available local. Giving my opinion and certainly not giving advice on how you should run your business. Just the feelings from my side of things. I wish you prosperity in all your business dealings.

Problems is... what if you live in say Cook County but have a business address in a non restriction county? If the company ships and some audit shows you purchased the thing mail order for your personal use in Cook county do you really think Chicago is going to let a little matter like being shipped to the other county stop them from suing the business? A risk/reward analysis would say selling to you is a bad move simply for your mobility. It's unfair, perhaps even silly but it's just the way things is when Chicago is concern.

Good for the retailer! Personally, I refuse to do business with anyone in a state where the residents have allowed it to slip into the clutches of the left wing lunatics. Every time is see an advertisement for an item or a product that interests me, I look to see where the company is based. If it is located in one of the lunatic states, I write them a message or letter explaining that they just lost another customer and why. I don't have any problem with people who want to live in these God forsaken places, but I don't have to spend my money supporting them either. I just wish there was some way to cut off my federal tax dollars too! My most recent letter went to a company located on Wacker Drive -- how appropriate -- in Chicago.

You are unjustly blaming gun owners who live in antigun states. This is a double whammy for them -- not only do they have to deal with the antigun laws locally, but they are deprived of the support of fellow gun owners elsewhere. It's not their fault that they are outnumbered. This idea of boycotting gun owners and gun businesses in hostile states is the most short-sighted policy I can think of. What would happen if your state flips over and you find yourself on the short end?

So you think that I personally, as a New York State resident, am responsible for the takeover of my state by the urban Democratic political machine, despite the way I vote and make political contributions, including to the NRA, SAF, GOA, and the New York State Rifle & Pistol association? That I should just up and leave a job where I am three years away from retirement, and leave my widowed 92-year-old mother to fend for herself because I want to go and live in a gun-friendlier state? And that if I'm unwilling to do that, then I should just accept the weak-kneed acquiescence of retailers who can't be bothered to learn the laws, even the bare-bones easy ones, like yes, you can sell handgun to New York State because it's the responsibility of the FFL who receives it to ensure compliance with NY handgun laws before transferring it to the buyer?

Those retailers are doing the antis' work for them. If they don't have the stomach for dealing with the legislation, they should go into another line of work. They'll have to anyway, once the antis have chiseled away so many rights that there won't be any customers left for them.

Actually, there is.

I knew the pastor of a small church during the height of the Iraq war (2005-ish) who, as a form of denying the government "war taxes" deliberately kept his income below the level where taxable income kicks in,which, for a single person at the time, was around $14k/yr. He essentially never had any taxable income, so he never financially contributed to the war effort. Several of the families in his congregation did likewise.

Thanks guys! You all prove my point wonderfully well!!! You've allowed your states to be hijacked by left wing lunatics and now you want not only our sympathy but you want us to do something about it without bothering you!!! Your states apparently have some sort of group dementia. How'd that Smollett case turn out for you people in Illinois? Or how about that carpet bagger Gillibrand telling all you folks in New York that she was pro-gun? Work out well for you? What'd you do to stop it? NOTHING!!! What, like maybe you'd have to get up off the couch. Thanks a lot for selling the rest of us out!

You don't know me, and you don't know what I've done. I never sold you out. I never sold ANYBODY out. I've spent my money, my time, and my votes swimming against the political tide in my state, and I'm going to keep doing it. Retailers who won't sell legal items to legal buyers are the ones who are selling us out. That's it, pure and simple.

You need to listen to Sancho Panza more, Mr. Quixote.
