I have my M&P being milled right now and fitted for the Shield RMSc red dot. This is the compact one where you have to remove the sight to change the battery.

Without a lot of testing on my end, it may be years before I would know this answer on my own.... How much does a red dot drift when you remove it from a gun and reinstall? Or more importantly, why would it change at all? The screw holes don't change.

It seems that is a common occurrence from reading around, but I don't see how.

Mostly depends on the mount. the mount on my xdm/osp does not change at all. but he mount on my rifle will be off a little bit each time I remove it and put it back on.

Your question is why I now only buy red dots where you can change the battery without removal from the firearm. I have gotten rid of my two FF2 sights and replaced them with FF3 or Vortex Venom. I have a Viper, which requires removal for battery change, but it's only on a fun gun that doesn't matter much.

I have an M&P CORE and I have had to re-zero after the screws came loose and after the contacts needed adjustment, and after replacing the 3-year-old battery. It was close but definitely needed to be rezeroed. Took a few shots. No biggie.
