Any love for S&W Autos?

I love the 3rd generation semi-autos. I currently have a 3914 (blued version of 3913) and a 4506-1. I had a beautiful unfired 645 and an unfired 5906, but I needed money after some medical bills and had a shop sell them a couple of years ago. They are heavy, but In my experience they are accurate and reliable. I actually sold a 4506-1 several years ago and just recently found another one without the box in pristine condition. The 4506 and Sig P220 are two of my all time favorites. If you like the big Smiths just find an extra guide rod. They are hard to come by and easy to launch when reassembling pistol.

I prefer the single/double action guns, but think the Shield 9mm is probably the best carry pistol deal going now. They shoot well, are easy to control, and are super reliable.

I love the 3rd generation S&W pistols. I carried a 4506-1 on duty for years. I still have it.

These days I alternate carry guns between a CS45, CS9 and a 457. Great pistols. Bet your life reliable, good looking, well made guns.

My first semi-auto was a 915 purchased in 1995. Part of the reason I chose the S&W gun was that I had been able to pick up several full-capacity after-market S&W magazines at a local store. It was a good gun that served me well until 2005 when I traded it off, along with the pile of factory and after-market magazines I had acquired for it during the AWB days, to help fund a Sig 226 purchase. A couple of years later, I got a 5906, with no magazine disconnect (from the factory), and then two years ago I got a nearly NIB 6906. I also have a Marlin Camp 9 to accompany them

I never did like the safety, and I wish S&W had made a model where the lever was only a decocker, like the Beretta 92G model. If I carried now, I would just use the safety like a decocker, but I was a lot less experienced back when I got the 915, and thought I needed to use that wrong-way safety.

I've had several over the years a 52 and a 1076 among others all are gone the only one left is a really pretty nickel 39-2 that I got just to have the original American 9 for my collection.
While 3rd gen Smiths are an excellent and viable option for SD I've migrated to Tupperware for general social use.

Definitely. I’ve got a 4506, 5946 and a 915. Hated to see S&W stop production of the Gen 3.

I am a S&W revolver guy. However, I did swap out an older Ruger single-action for a S&W Model 469 that came with one original magazine, a new magazine for a 6906 that fit well, and 300 rounds of 115 grain Blazer Brass ammunition. Loaded with 12+1, it's 2 ounces lighter than my normal EDC, a 4 inch, pinned & recessed, square butt, Model 65-1 is empty. The only thing I can think to do to the 469 is have the front sight milled off, a dovetail machined in it's place and better sights installed.

I would say I like this S&W auto. I'm not rocking the combat Tupperware, though.

Only S&W auto I own is my Shield. This one is in 40S&W.

A couple Smith Semi-automatics that get to go WalkAbout pretty often.

It’s not a 9mm, but the CHP 4006’s that have been released to the market the last few years are decock only. It’s possible that other agencies may have made the same special order request, possibly in 9 or .45.

And then there is also the models with the frame mounted decocker. But they are pretty rare to come by.

This is currently my only S&W auto. A not so common 1086.

5903 TSW here my one and only

Love, I don't know, but sure like them. I've owned I don't know how many 1st., 2nd., and 3rd. Gen S&W semi-autos since the first Model 39 I purchased new back in the 60s. Still have a few 3rd. Gen guns.

I've never owned a 3rd generation S&W auto. I did buy a M&P 2.0 40 compact 4" not too long ago & like it.
The real reason I am posting though is I saw LEO trade in 5906's for $349 with one magazine on gun.deals. The seller was gunprime.com . I just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone is interested.

S&W semiautos- I've got a few. 915 that I found on GB as an example of the brand, 39-2 that I picked up as a re-import, and most recently a pair of 5906's for myself and my son. Only one cost me over $300, that was the 5906 my son saw and liked at the local shop, and we got that for $399.

If you don't have one and you like range toys especially, it's definitely worth the price to get a 5906 or similar. These are very well-made guns, and the materials are top notch. I'd put them on a par with Sig, Beretta and CZ, and you're not going to find one of those with a stainless frame for anywhere near the price.

I had a 457 I bought in Biloxi years ago that I foolishly sold. Neat little pistol. It was a CANNON.

I really love the earlier 4506 and of course the Model 52 target guns for their niche . The 4506 are tanks and maybe the best all around .45 acp IMHO except they are big and heavy
I carried a Model 39-2 for a decade and they were ok by me.

The guns above are all pre-1970. Work well and fun to shoot.

I've had a couple 5906 models, an early squared trigger on that might be the most reliable semi-automatic I've ever owned and just a little while ago got the urge to return to the full size Wonder Nines and bought a Police trade-in that's likely from one of the last batches of 5906s with a VZCxxxx seial number.

I had a Model 41. Not bad, but I sold it when I upgraded to a Walther GSP. It was a great gun when it was introduced, but S&W didn't keep up with the advances in design, particularly in trigger and sight adjustability.

I guess I'd better move the PC guns into the vault. I've got several, including a Shorty 9, a 945, and five of the revolvers.
