Are ASM and Uberti the only ones to make Dragoons?

We know Uberti makes the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Whitneyville Dragoon. I don't recall seeing a Pietta made Dragoon.

Which models of the Dragoon did ASM make?

We also have to remember the 2nd and 3rd generation Colt dragoons of course!
ASM made all of the models and they made them before Uberti so you will find them with some pretty early date codes.
The Whitneyville Walker and the 2nd Model were their first offerings and are found in their 1964 catalog.
Besides ASM's civilian 3rd model, they also made the only military version of the 3rd model to have a rear sight.
It came in the normal barrel length and in an 18 inch barrel as well; both of these could use the stock ASM made for them.
They also sold a saddle scabbard for the long version.

No. The Walker and Whitneyville Dragoon had round lock notches. The 1st M. Dragoon had round for the most part but the later ones had rectangular notches. 2nd and 3 rds had rectangular as well.

When you're talking about originals the Walker's, Whitneyville-Hartford Dragoons and 1st Dragoons have round or somewhat oval notches and the 2nd and 3rd Dragoon's had rectangular notches.

On the repros the Walker's, Whitneyville-Hartford Dragoons and 1st Dragoons usually had strongly oval notches and the 2nd and 3rd Dragoon's usually had trapezoidal notches. A few repros did have correct round or rectangular notches but most of them were intentionally made to be oval or trapezoidal, so that they would be slightly different than the originals.

I think it's strange that a manufacturer would intentionally make their "replica" different than the originals.

I find it odd that a Colt second generation Dragoon 2nd model would have trapezoidal slots instead of rectangular.

When the Italian replicas were first discussed, there was a strong argument against them ever seeing the light of day from collectors of originals concerned with faking. The companies settled the argument by agreeing to make slight variations from the originals to lessen the problem. As we have seen, they were not entirely successful but if you do your research before buying, you can usually spot a fake.

Do the cylinders on your Dragoons have the "safety" posts on the back where the hammer would rest between nipples?
In my collection:
AP - ASM 3rd Model Military Dragoon 18" barrel with stock (no barrel address) - has safety posts
AD - ASM (unmarked) 3rd Model Military Dragoon 7 3/8" barrel without stock (RH Colt barrel address) - has safety posts
AF - ASM 2nd Model Civilian Dragoon 7 3/8" barrel (LH Colt barrel address) - has safety posts
AM - ASM 1st Hartford Model Civilian Dragoon 7 3/8" barrel (LH Colt barrel address) - does not have safety posts
AH - ASM Co. A marked Walker 9" barrel (LH Colt barrel address) - has the correct ONE safety post

BS - Cimarron/Uberti Walker 9" barrel (LH "COTL" barrel address) - has the correct ONE safety post (this one also has "COTLS Patent" and "44Cal" in the correct locations.

So I guess the answer is SOMETIMES!

Is this why most Pietta 1851 Navies have the "infamous" tail grip? ;)

I have an unusual variant of an ASM 3rd model Dragoon, that has three leaf express sights mounted on top, rear, of the barrel. It is new, never fired, though I do not have the box. I've never fired it to check the regulation of the sights. Something else on my "gotta do" list.

This is interesting but I am not sure what he means by "set up."

These are true to the originals:

But not all had the rear sight:

ASM was the only maker of the 3rd model dragoon with the leaf sight.
It came in two barrel lengths, 7.5 and 18 inches.
EMF offered both lengths with or without stock and offered a saddle scabbard for the stocked 18".

Wow Ephraim, more info than I could of imagined. When I first got it I put pictures on the Darksiders Den, and now I recall someone there said it was for shoulder stock models. Thank you.

Posting this here in case any new people have knowledge of who made my 1960s/1970s- era replica Walker, 3rd Dragoon, and Paterson. Only markings are "GM".
It would be helpful if you posted pictures of the "GM" and any other markings on the guns.
I do not know of any maker or importer using that logo.
