.22lr GP100

I was considering a GP100 in 22 or a 617 but I sniped a good condition K22 of Gunbroker for less than I could find either even used.

I was worried about reports of heavy DA triggers though. I really wanted to play with one in person first.

I'm surprised that you found a K22 less expensive over the 617. I looked at the new Smith 22 at the LGS.
The new guns don't even hold a candle to the older K22's. Fit / finish is much better on the older guns!

I don't know how I missed your thread in my search...?
I have an itch for a new .22 revolver.
Perhaps the gp100 would make s good subject for a collection, since there are do many variations available.
I just picked up a .22 SP101 and both single and double action are silky smooth-

Believe it or not, I actually chose this over an older K22 as it was stainless and I want to be able to hand it to my kid without having to worry about stroking out if she drops it......

This is an older rimfire SP, though, and I understand they are a bit hard to come by. I dont know how the new production 8-shot version compares, but I highly recommend this one.

I might have to go back this payday for the K22 though.:D

I had a similar itch for a DA 22 to go with my K-22. I was looking at the SP101 but a few weeks ago I found a used but pristine Taurus Tracker 970, stainless with a 6.5" barrel. It was at a very good price so I went for it. Turned out to be seriously accurate and comfortable to shoot. The SA trigger is light and crisp. The DA trigger is long but smooth. Don't know if I got a rare gem or if the Tracker series are all this good but I would consider a centerfire Tracker if I was looking for another 357 DA revolver. (Like I need another 357 revolver!)

I like my Smiths and Rugers and wouldn't trade them. I just mention this as a possibly less expensive alternative.

The GP’s are seriously overweight for a 22LR, considering the SP101 is out there to be had, but they are fiendishly fun to shoot. I wouldn’t buy the GP100 with the SP101 on the market.

If they bumped the barrel length on the GP100 to 6-7” and it were D&T’d for a scope base, or better still, milled for scope rings like the Redhawk Hunter, then the conversation changes. But until that day, the SP101 is the handier revolver of the two.

I've been seriously considering the ruger single six hunter, but I already have two single-sixes.
I would like a d/a, and a couple of speedloaders.
I really hadn't thought about the sp101 rimfire.
I am a ruger guy, so I can see myself getting a gp100 in .357, .44, and maybe 10mm some day.

I know they do make speedloaders for the new 8-shot SP rimfire, though I dont think anybody ever made one for the vintage six shooter.

I'm thinking of trading my SP101 2 1/8 inch for one in .22 rim fire with a longer barrel. That .357 isn't fun shooting heavy loads, and I already have a Ruger Black Hawk in .357. A double action .22 rim fire would be fun. hdbiker

I was surprised too! Won it with a minimum starting bid. Auction had good description and plenty of pictures. I wasn't exactly planning on buying it, but just tossed out the bid and somehow no one out bid me.
