Full underlug revolvers

I've already got a M15, and a PPC gun. Not a bad suggestion for those who don't already have those though.

Oh come on, Budsgunshop has a dozen wheel guns listed for $300 and under. If I bump it up to $350 they have 30 guns who's MSRP is at my price point or below. Most of those guns have full underlug as well, I didn't realize it was coming back into style.

To clarify, I am not looking for a gun for social purposes, I have that covered. I am not looking for a collectors piece either. I am looking for something a little off the beaten path, that is a full underlug. It could be an import gun, something no longer in production, or a brand new idea. I'm not picky on those parts. Just a full underlug.
Take a look at the Rossi M971 they can be found at or below the 300.00 mark.

The older (pre 1997) Taurus revolvers are a great value. The current production models are not.

This is my Taurus Model 689. I got it used for $199, about 15 years ago. It's been an excellent revolver. Basically it's a fancier Model 66. The Taurus Model 66 variants I've had that dated from the mid 1980's up until about 1990 have been very good. This one was made in 1990, IIRC. The grips are some of the Thai hardwood ones from eBay.

The GP100 is an excellent gun, if I ever saw one for under $300 around here I would certainly own it!

The various offerings from Taurus are intriguing. Though the Windicator I have taken a fancy to, the rib over the barrel reminds me of the python. A pistol reminding you of another pistol is reason enough to buy it right? Also thanks for the thoughts on the Rossi I had totally forgotten about them!

I'd pinch some pennies and save up for and wait on the right used GP100 or Dan Wesson 15-2 if I were in your shoes. I've seen GP100's go for about 400 when the sellers in a rush.

I bought a Rossi 38 not too long ago for less than $300. It looked almost exactly like a Colt Diamondback. Full length underlug, vent rib barrel. I thought it was a nice little gun, but sold it to finance something else.

I really like the Taurus 66 Revolvers I have seen and handled and shot. You would have to look pretty hard to find a new one for $400 locally.

Mine is Stainless Steel and it is a keeper.

With all due respect, a Taurus revolver is not in the same ballpark as S&W

I don't know. It depends on when it was made. I'm a Smith and Wesson guy, but based on my experience Taurus turned out some really NICE guns between oh...mid 70's to mid 90's or so. I can't comment on anything newer, because I have no experience with them, but I had both a seven shot Model 66, and six shot Model 65 (K-frame sized, 357's adjustable and fixed sights respectively.) that I'd have put up against any Model 19/13 I've ever owned. Now that I think about it, the Model 66 had a full length underlug barrel.

I wouldn't mind owning them both today, but sold them off to finance something else.

With all due respect the OP asked about revolvers under $300. He didn't ask about S&W revolvers under $300. So I was not comparing the two. However since you brought it up I have both brands and they are all great revolvers. Never a problem with either brand.

My Taurus 85s are full underling and cost under $300.

I have had one Taurus Model 85. It was absolutely the worst revolver I have ever owned. It was given to me by a relative of a deceased family member and I sold it at the next available gun show. I was so happy to get rid of it I gave the money to the relative. I have never bought another Taurus product. I think you will find you will get what you pay for when you are looking for a new revolver. Good luck with your search.

Look for a S&W 60-4, sweet 3 inch with a full under lug. 6325461_01_smith_wesson_60_4_3_inch_640.jpg
