I have a 1969 1200 that is a 28in fixed MOD choke. Gun is excellent condition for 50 yrs old. Have owned it since 2003. I use it for Pheasant, Turkey, Prairie Chicken and Quail. I also shoot Trap with it. Anyone have one, like it and still shoot it?

I owned a 1300 years ago, the same gun but with a 3" chamber. Wish I hadn't gotten rid of it. The action was so smooth that if you held it muzzle up and pressed the bolt release the slide opened the action just through its own weight.
I got rid of it because I couldn't find a slug barrel (or most other parts) for it. But I was too hasty. Would just a whole new Maverick 88 with a slug barrel and keep the Winchester if I had to do it all over again. It's funny; from what I've read the Winchester 1200/1300 guns were reviled as "low quality" when they were introduced, but they are easily as good as the Mossberg 500, which is now considered mainstream. huh.

Not a Win 1200 but I know how you feel about your Win because I have a similar relationship with my 12 Ga Rem 870. Had it since 1970 & it's still in like new condition. It is field grade so no vent rib or fancy stuff, just a plain 28" mod barrel. I've taken it to the field more than any other hunting gun I own except maybe for my old 22 rifle. I have shot doves, quail, ducks & geese with it & it always seems to man up to the job whatever it is. A few years ago I got into trap shooting & won a couple of local trap shoots competing against some extremely pricey trap guns. Some guns are just special.

Still have my 1300 I bought new the last year before the plant closed. It still handles and shoots very well. I would take it over the Mossberg twice over. Quite a bit like the 1200. Winshadow.jpg

As long as you are happy with your gun, great.
The 1200 had quite a few issues. It was one of the first of Winchester's less costly to produce designs after the demise of the Model 12 and old Model 70s. Before long it was replaced with the 1300. To me the 1300 was one of the best pointing guns ever. But, the 1300 also still had some issues. It was replaced by the Speed Pump. That one too, was not yet perfect. After FN bought the rights to make guns under the Winchester name, they spent some time working on things, and now we have the SXP. Hopefully now, they have things right. Over the same span of time Remington and Mossberg found no need to change their designs.

I had carried my Dad's 1200 for a couple of years duck hunting. On Dec 26, 1973, my 14th birthday, I pulled the 1200 out of the case and there was a note taped to the stock. In essence the note transferred the ownership of said Win Mod 1200 from Dad to me. I have hunted with it ever since with nary a failure. It still looks brand new today. SN 280XXX.

Here is a picture that was shared with me a few years ago while doing some research. It shows the variations on the bolt assembly through the years. Handy if you don't know what you have. 1300-37JPGa.jpg
