Hello all - I bought a Sig P229 in 1995 or thereabouts, in 9mm. I wanted a P228 but since this was in the manic period before the federal ban took effect, beggers couldn't be choosers. My P229 was and is a fine pistol, but I've never warmed up to its slide design - thinner on the top half than the bottom.

I see now that Sig offers P229 replacement slides which, as a bonus, have their Romeo red dots already attached. They are called RX Slides. I'm hoping to get a more attractive slide and a red dot by buying one of these for my P229.

Here's the question - will these new P229 slides fit an early P229? I understand SIG went to a "Gen 2" design with the P229 during the early oughts....

I thought about doing that with my P229 I purchased in 1994.

Sig customer support should be able to answer the compatibility question for you. I didn't make the change; purchased a P320RX for slightly more than what the RX Slide would have cost.

I think your best bet is to call SIG CS to get an accurate answer.

I also recently ordered an RX Slide, got a P320 Compact one for my X Carry frame. I got mine from Optics Planet for slightly less than SIG was asking...the State Sales Tax caught me a bit off guard

I call mine the Halfbreed: It's a p229 Legion RX slide. The Romeo I is a great Red Dot. My other RDS are Trij RMR's.

My p229 was a LEO turn-in that I got 12-15 years ago. IDK the year of manufacture but I would guess around 2000.
