Nice article in the Chicago Tribune on how the Second Amendment Sanctuary movement began in Effingham County and has been spreading in Illinois. The article points out that the county resolutions are not laws, but messages to the state legislature and governor, but are based on a conviction that many gun control laws being passed or considered are unconstitutional.

This ground has been well trodden here before.
Sadly, it veers away from the arguments of whether a lesser polity might choose to go against, or even abrogate, a greater polity, and how that speaks to how laws, in the main, are legislated, enforced, and adjudicated.

Instead, it wanders off into, various moralistic opinions and politicial sophistry.

Our County Board just adopted such a resolution. Sure it's largely symbolic, but our Sheriff made strong public statements supporting it despite being a Democrat. He is well respected and his opinion carries much weight here. The local papers and media covered the resolution and more people were made aware of the growing concern about the Pritzker Administration than might have otherwise paid attention. To that end the resolutions serve a purpose from my perspective.

Even it is symbolic, we need any and everything we can get in this rapidly oppressive becoming state. Up now, a bill and amendment to mess up the already unconstitutional foid act, plus make it illegal to sell, give, or loan to a friend, relative or other.

A few Jackson County board members last year wanted to pass a resolution in favor of ALL the gun control bills. What the county board received was a packed court room and a packed foyer of residents that were not in favor of such BS and were rather vocal!

GOOD !! They should be reminded about the history of Williamson County as it was written about in the book "Bloody Williamson". BTW, I'm originally from West Frankfort and spent my last 3 years of college at C'dale.

I seem to recall from history class, that states attempted a similar legal strategy once before. They called it nullification, and it didn't end well for them.
and more recently, after Brown v. Board of Education, a couple places tried to legislate around it or ignore it. Cooper v. Aaron found the supreme court smacking down Arkansas's laws and resulted in one of the only unanimous decisions in SCOTUS history. Effectively telling states that they were indeed bound by judicial decisions and had to enforce laws, even if they didn't agree with them.
I'm curious to see how these sanctuary resolutions will play out and if various sheriffs are going to be held liable for failing to enforce the laws set down by state legislatures. It sets a very bad precedent to have law enforcement openly defying elected representatives.
