I have the same gun, only mine was built in 1940. Best squirrel hunting shotgun ever made, IMO. Light weight and fast, and choked so tight that there isn't a tree around here tall enough for a squirrel to be safe in.

From what I gather some call it a pre-Model 11.

I'm not sure it matters.

Whatever you call it, Remington did a terrific job with JMB’s masterpiece. I hope you take yours out and shoot it.

I used to in my early twenties when it was basically my only shot gun.

Since then it's been relegated to closet duty. Now that I remembered it I might take it out now.

I’ve killed a few squirrels, doves and bobwhites myself with it way back in my high school days. Before it was passed down to me in 1990 it was my Grandfathers go-to turkey gun stoked with a load of #5 shot.

It used to have an 18” Cylinder choke barrel/foreend set with matching serial numbers to the receiver and barrel set numbers on it now. Where that extra set went to I have no idea. My Grandfather saw guns pretty much as a ranching tool rather than a work of art or a future legacy item, so he probably gave it to someone who needed it more than he did.

You said it’s been in the closet? Stuff changes in the closet. My own closet is full of clothes that fit perfectly when I hung them in there, and now they’ve all shrunk. Something similar may have happened to your Browning.

This is my third oldest shotgun, it's a Krieghoff made in 1935,



I've been doing most of my hunting with it since I bought it in 1983,



It's still my "go to gun", for most of my hunting...

I have a 1938 Eastern Arms (Hardware store shotgun) double barrel 12 ga. Gun is in excellent condition. I shoot it a few times a year. It has 26in barrels on it.

Hmm, maybe.

Got all peeved at not going out and changed from a browning to a Remington.

Mine is walnut original, 1 small hairling crack at top of stock.

My oldest is my grandfather's Model 12 with a full choke. Curiosity just got the better of me and a serial number look up says it is from 1917. He originally bought a Model 97 one Saturday from the hardware store in the nearest town and over the following week the exposed hammer kept concerning him with all the kids in the household so he went back the next Saturday and traded up to the Model 12 for the additional $5.00 in price. I got it from one of my uncles back in the 80's when he died.

My second-oldest is this 1908 pre-Model 11.

My oldest shotgun is definitely my 1887 pump action shotgun with the 30" barrel that I completely refurbished from a basket case, made right around 1902ish.

1930's A.H. Fox Sterlingworth 16 gauge. It's a great field gun, but I haven't had a dog in years.

What caliber is the rifle barrel? Drillings fascinated me for years.

Benelli Super 90 (before they started calling it the 'M1') maybe 40 yrs old ?

8x57jRS, I load 200NP's to 2,550 and they work very good on big game up to moose and blk. bear...

Here's a nice moose I shot with it for my freezer,



Anyway, that load is VERY accurate in my drilling,



These days, for big game, I put one or two white tails in the freezer every fall with it.

1st year production, Winchester 1901 10 gauge. extremely clean bore and innards, locks up like a bank vault door closing. really decent shape for it's age, I have some original ammo ,and man you know you've got a tiger by the tail when she roars.

I just bought a single shot 16 White Powder Wonder that should be from about 1898 based on the contract with Sears and the low serial number. I haven’t shot it yet, but I will soon.
