I have come to the conclusion that S&W is trying to take over the the world Some of the deals even at the LGS (Never mind the Big Online) is just insane.

Recent deal seen at small LGS.
Local Soldier Home on Leave.

Shield M1.0 9mm

Sale Price $275
Dealer Military Discount - $27.50
S&W Military Rebate -$40
Final Price $207.50
(I've seen even better deals online).

I know that's a 1.0 but it's still ridiculous for a pistol so popular S&W sold 2 Million of before the 2.0 even came out.

S&W doesn't want to compete. They want to dominate!
 
Perhaps just attempting to remain viable in a market where the "inexpensive" handguns (such as the Taurus G2C) are winning many over. After rebates, a new G2C can be purchased $165 (sans shipping and transfer fees).

I have 3 S&W M&Ps (M&P40c, M&P9c 2.0 and a .45 Shield) a Taurus P111G2 and G2C. They're all just as accurate and reliable as the other. I see S&W remaining competitively priced in the automatic field and keeping the prices closer to MSRP for their revolvers.
There are still a couple S&W revolvers on my short list.
 
It's a very competitive market out there. Folks as aren't hard-pressed to obtain a firearm in this pro-gun Trump presidency like it was back in the Hussain administration. And simultaneously the firearms manufacturers ramped up production towards the end of Barry's reign. I perceive a glut in the firearms market, so I imagine that S&W an all others are needing to find ways to attract customers. Thank you for your service, 94045.

For us in the most free states, I agree, it really is. Everything is in stock and everything is near the lowest prices, ever.

An individual can outfit themselves with a duty-quality rifle and pistol for $1500...easy. Maybe $1000. I saw a LNIB Colt 6720 AR at Scheels locally for $599. Add any used Glock/S&W and Golden Age it is.

I saw some trade-in Ruger SR-556 LE Rifles for $589. I don't know anything about gas-piston rifles but I know the civilian versions were spendy.
 
I'd guess that S&W has too much inventory of the Shield 1.0 as a result of over production during the Obama years and the slacking of sales in the Trump years. Since the introduction of the Shield 2.0, the Shield 1.0 are not selling.

Keeping inventory on hand has tax implication so by lowering price, the customer is given incentives to buy the older version. Then, S&W reduces its inventory tax obligations.
 
I walked into my favorite pawn yesterday to pick up my newly-transferred G2C and the manager proceeded to show me another transfer she was unpacking, a "gift set" consisting of a zippered bag containing a new Shield 9mm with CT laser, second magazine, S&W folder knife, and a S&W-branded pocket tactical light. The price on the Bud's ticket was around $350, if I remember correctly.
 
The're on sale at PSA for $250. The problem with this gun is large size in relation to magazine capacity. I would rather pay more and get Ruger Security 9 Compact. The rail is nice bonus as one can mount a micro light and use it as HD gun.

Not that it would ever happen (Glock, SIG, Ruger, Springfield Armory, CZ, Walther, HK, Taurus, etc. might have a thing or two to say about that), but at any rate I don't really have a problem with it either.

A little bit of competitive pricing (and new design innovations), between the gun manufacturers, and gun dealers, is a good thing for the consumer.

Once you’ve bought the (up-front expensive) molding, plastic frames are almost free to make in terms of marginal cost. Sell a lot of units and you can spread that upfront fixed expense out very widely.

Then throw in the model-change dynamic. S&W dealers probably won’t order many 2.0’s until their existing 1.0 inventory is cleared out. S&W is trying to help clear out the old stuff (with rebates) so dealers will order more of the new stuff.

With CDNN blowing out Walter Creeds for about $200.00, the entry level-new gun market is tough, tough, tough to compete in.

It’s too bad these deals overlap so much of what I already have... I can’t find the rationale to buy a bunch more ...:(

I bought two of the 1st gen M&P40c pistols in the last few months. One for $349 and one for $366. Just sent in my rebate form for $50 on the second one.

They are great little guns.

Also bought a Taurus G2c last year for $199. Not bad, but the trigger and weak finish make me think I paid about what it was worth.

Cabelas was giving military discounts of 10% for awhile. I got one just by saying I was a vet. No proof or documentation. I wasn't trying to put one over on anybody, I didn't even ask, they did.
 
I agree on the Taurus. I have a G2 and it's been very reliable.

Local dealer has the G2C for $199.99
After the $30 Taurus Cash & Carry Rebate that's $169.99.

It really is a great market for the Free States.
 
Some models of the HK P30 are down to $575. When I first looked at them several years ago they were over $800. I might pick one up when my dealer tells me his distributor has them again. That's one fine gat for under $600. One ad says they ran 12000 rds thru one without a hitch. Reliable doesn't even begin to describe that.

I think everyone has to get skinny to survive in this market.
 
I really like the M&P line.
Now if the come up with a PCC that uses the pistol mags and they start making a 30 round mag, I’d be all over it. And yes I know Promag has a 30 round M&P, but a genuine M&P would be nice for those of us that don’t want to buy Glock mags for a PCC

I don't get military discounts (I never served), but I am routinely asked if I am "law enforcement." That's kind of a conundrum for me. I'm a lawyer and a deputy prosecuting attorney, so . . . . technically, I am law enforcement. However, I'm not a certified law enforcement officer (which is what most people think of when they think "law enforcement"), I never went to the academy, I am not a police officer and I don't carry a gun as part of my job duties. And that's what I tell clerks when they ask. Like you, I'm not trying to put one over on anyone, but I don't mind saving some $$$, either. If the store still wants to give me a discount after I spell out what I do, I'll take it. If they don't, I won't argue.

Interestingly, we only had one Glock Blue Label dealer here for a very long time. When I went to buy a Glock under BL, it took quite a bit of work on my part to convince the dealer that I actually qualified. We now have 2 BL dealers in the area, and the new one seems to already know that prosecutors qualify.

That's a nice package. I bought one a couple of months ago. I paid a bit more for it than that, but less than that with a transfer. Darn good gun. The next time it malfunctions, will be the first time. That little flashlight is as handy as a pocket on a shirt. The knife is nice, but I'm a Swiss Army Knife guy, so it usually stays on the dresser. I've got enough clutter in pockets as it is. Mine didn't have the bag though. Just the regular box.

Edited to add: Oh, drat. I just went back and checked the box. There is a little zipper carrying case in there. Who knew? :)
