I saw today a Springfield XD in 9mm for $300 new from several online supplier s.
They only come with 1 16 round mag but still for $300 I'll buy another Mag.
I was looking at the 4-inch model only since I already have a 9 mm subcompact XDS and G2C.

Does anyone have one of these what do you make of it?
Is it different than the regular XD?
How different?
I think it must be slightly different because it seems like they're launching it at a huge discount.

Then why are they launching it with discounts like it's a new gun? Also doesn't $300 seem a bit low for one of these?

There are new models since the original. The original has been around a while.

Springfield is just reintroducing them at a lower price to compete with similarly lower priced guns by other brands. I guess this is their choice instead of just discontinuing the original, older model

I sincerely hope people now realize that something made half of plastic molding isn't worth $500 plus as suggested to market by Glock. The Turkish manufacturers have shown us that there is no reason to pay $200 for $300 extra for name brand alone.

One magazine is an absolute rip off. Are there any other new autoloaders that only ship with a single mag?

It is a marketing ploy, its a basic XD pistol with one mag and no holster or anything. For me it would be a great purchase as I have one and have multiple mags and holsters, it wouldn't be a bad thing to have the another gun in my house that I keep on my hip, but if I were buying a new one I would look for at least another mag on one purchase.

When one considers that magazines are basically sheet metal the prices being asked by some brands are just Insane. For most brands $25 would be plenty. The most impressive mage I remember were factory ones for MAB-15. That gun features what was later considered the rear Novak Sight.

Are you another Glock hater?

So is a $2500-$3000 Dan Wesson 1911 overpriced, when I can go buy a Philippine or a Ruger 1911 for less than half that? Both shoot the same ammo, same design, use the same holster.. Heck, they both are built off basically the same patent. By your logic, there is "no reason to pay the extra" $1600 for brand name alone?

First and foremost, Glock has a long standing reputation for reliability...period. Like it or not, they are the standard by which all "striker fired, tupperware quality, wonder-9's" are judged. And for good reason...they have worked very well, under any condition, with little care and maintenance, with a variety of ammo and decent magazines, since the 1980's. Doesn't a solid reputation deserve a premium? The market thinks it does...

The Glock is a different PATENTED gun than an XD or a PPQ or a CZ P10 or an M&P. There are certainly similarities, but I can buy a ton of both OEM and aftermarket parts for a Glock. I can buy reliable Glock magazines from Magpul for $15 or less. I can buy tons of different triggers, mag releases, slide locks, holsters, lights, sights, etc. The Glock platform is supported almost as well, in in some ways, better than, the 1911 platform. You don't think all that deserves a bit of a premium? Again, the market thinks it does.

I am in no way putting down the XD. I own a XDm and a Mod 2 and they are great guns. Neither am I meaning to insult 1911 owners...I am simply using that platform to illustrate my point.

I have some friends who shoot the S&W economy line (sorry, model eludes me), as well as a guy who has a couple HiPoints. All swear by their guns, and don't mind the occasional FTF/FTE. More power to them...I won't own these guns, but we all get to choose within our laws and budgets.

Cheaper guns work, but there is a reason they are cheaper...may be inferior parts that may not last past 2,000 rounds.

I've had a Springfield XD for years, and I bought one of the new Defender models.
I can tell you there isn't a nickle's worth of difference in them, and there's nothing "cheap" about them.
Just a darn good deal.

It's a good deal for an XD... You can always buy mags later on sale... I think I've seen the mags on sale for as low as $12-$15 dollars...

XDs are great guns and have been around for years. The first handgun I ever purchased was an XD 4" service model. Still have it to this day about a decade later and the finish still looks great, and it hasn't had even one malfunction.

Agreed! I paid almost $500 for the same gun a decade ago before there was a XDM, XDs, or Mod 2 line. Back then the consensus was that Glocks, M&Ps, and XD were one of the top three tier brands...

One should check PSA site on regular basis. They just had closeout and the gun is out of stock. I will say one thing about the XDS it is pretty small for .45ACP. They also have hammer fired plastic-framed pistol. The 9x19 is a brick but .45Acp is just right. Need to examine before making judgement or commitment.

Yea, PSA is where I usually see the XD mags on sale for cheap.

The XD line is solid. If other Defender is simply a previous generation XD, as some have said, then I agree this is a good deal on a very good handgun.

The way the slide seems to sit up so high makes me wonder if these guns would have more muzzle flip than the equivalent gun from Kahr, Glock, or S&W? Now that my Kahr has taken a dump I’m trying to decide if I’m going to just buy a new Kahr (got lotsa $ invested in holsters, mags, etc.) or try something else.

Haven't fired a Glock in over a decade, but have fired M&Ps, CZ, Walthers, Rugers, Sigs, KelTec, Kahr, Taurus, and probably a few more that I can't think of off the top of my head. I honestly don't notice a difference.

I know that a female instructor at a popular range/gun shop in my area carries and competes with a basic XD. I also know that XDMs have been a favorite of some competitors over the years. The main people I hear complaining about the bore axis of XD's are people who are fans of and carry other platforms. I don't hear those who own and carry them reporting that it's an issue...

I’ve owned and carried Glock, Ruger, Sig, Kimber, HK, Kahr, Keltec, CZ, S&W, Walter, SA XD and probably a few others I’m missing. Never noticed anything different in bore axis of XD. XD and CZ have been my favorites so only ones I currently still own. With as much as I love my CZ’s, if could only own 1 brand for HD, SD and ccw it would be SA XD mod2’s

I have an XD9 Sub Compact and found it is an outstanding pistol. So I could easily see buying it instead of the MOD 2, which I handled, but did not see as an improvement. On this, it is too each his own as too which is better.

I liked it so much, I bought a second XD9 Sub Compact used as I found it shoots well, is compact, though bulkier than a GLOCK 26. On the other hand, I find it easier to shoot than the smaller GLOCK 26, whose grip is too short for me. I think the original gun is an outstanding concealed carry or car gun.

It's a regular XD, with a single magazine and no fancy box and no extra gear kit.
