New LCP - 2 hickups

This thread is a disappointing find...

I've been contemplating grabbing a LCP for pocket carry when a holster won't fly.... Are these problems common in the LCP II as well?

When you were having trouble removing the stuck bullet, did you drop the magazine. That is good safety practice as well as it makes it easier to correct the malfunction.

Make sure you are not limp-wristing the gun. After you run about 500 round through, most problems like this will probably disappear. New guns need breaking in. And the recoil spring is likely on the weak side in a gun like that. If it fairly easy to rack, you must expect it to not push round forward very hard.

There are a huge number of LCPs in circulation and you don't hear about a ton of problems. I think they're generally solid little pistols.

I had the Kel-Tek P38AT (I think that's what they're called) for about five years and had zero malfunctions, then I gave it to my FiL. For complicated reasons I had another Kel-Tek and a "original" LCP for short amounts of time, like 100 rounds apiece, and had no problems with either of them. I still have my Beretta Pico, also with only about 100 rounds through it and have had no problems. Of all of them, I have liked my LCPII the most, have had a few hundred rounds through it, and also no problems.

Apparently my pocket 380's have been a boring bunch.

Hi, never a problem with the LCP, just the LCP 2.

Dropped the mag every 2 rounds.

I have had one. A LCP Gen 2 (Not LCP II). 815 Rounds with 2 Malfunctions.
Round 608 - Stuck follower on brand new extended magazine allowed last case to reload back into magazine. Has never reoccurred after initial loading of magazine.
Round 743 - Out of spec Fed AE would not enter battery.

I don't consider either of those a pistol issue. It's the reason you function check a new magazine and any carry ammo.

Have people had issues with the LCP? Yes. People have also had issues with a Glock. Far and away they are good to go out of the box with the possible exception of failure to return to battery within the first 50 rounds. They do tend to have slightly rough chambers and be a little tight when brand new.

I tend to be a little ACD about certain things.
Which tends to make it a little easier.
I tend to shoot practice ammo in lots of 50 and keep carry ammo in the original containers (So I know exactly how many have been used).

The thing that throws me off is carry ammo.
I shot both magazines with full loads of carry ammo last time at the range hence the 815 instead of 800. I know how many rounds I have on me and how many left in my designated Carry Round Brand & Lot # Boxes.

My LCP Custom does not like Remington ammo....several failures to feed out of a box of 50. No problems with Winchester White Box, Federal American Eagle, or Speer Lawman.

I went through a lot of LCP's before moving on to better pocket guns. The LCP is and has been the least favorite to shoot. Just a unpleasant gun, at least compared to all the others. That said, mine were always reliable. The best of the Bunch of the LCP's I owned was one I had during the ammo shortage. The gun just loved Tula Steel case ammo. Never had a malfunction with that gun and ammo and it was surprisingly very accurate. Never wore out a extractor like the internet said the ammo would do. I would average on Primer failure per box of Tula. (they are known for hard primer strikes). Not the guns fault. The early models did not like hollow point ammo. But was never a problem later on. The best of the LCP's IMO is the Gen 2 which I still own on. Hate the LCPll trigger. Horrible for a pocket gun. And the Gen 2 always felt more solid than the LCPll.
While I have other Pocket guns now, If I were to just want a LCP I would get the Kel-tec. They seem to have really gotten it down and you can get a complete grip assembly for $35.00 if a Grip were to crack. Comes complete with trigger, springs etc.
Recently bought the Kel-tec P32 and already love the little 6oz gun and the ballistics of the Underwood ammo has really changed how I feel about a 32.cal.

I’ve had the opposite experience; I had a P3AT that would not make it through a magazine without a jam.

Two P32s that rimlocked with every type of ammo I tried(and yes I used ball ammo).
I have a 9 yr old LCP that is utterly reliable and a newer one too that is the same.

Recently bought a Kel-tec P32 and have to say I like this little 6oz gun. So far has ran great. Have not shot it much, but 200 rounds of mixed ammo including the Underwood Defender and it has been flawless. Put a Gallaway 13 lb spring and and steel guide rod. Love Underwood Plus P.

Fully loaded 8 rounds, It will see a lot of carry time this Hot Summer

I thought about finding a LCP custom with the red trigger and better sights, but the transfer fee alone here in McCall is a whopping $50!

I guess I could sell a couple PPK/s and other guns on Gunbroker,but NO, there isn't a FFL holder that will send out any guns,,
they just want to bring them in.

Things are expensive or absurd here, as a transfer fee in Lewiston is $15.00

However, this high country is full of beauty and beautiful women, plus plenty of open carry guns.

I've not had any sinus problems since leaving that smog infested LC valley.

Anyone on here from Valley County? Let me know.

Yes, I might find a used LCP at a Gunshow in Boise, but it will prob not be the Custom.

My P32 has been flawless for about 600 rds., PF9s are totally reliable for about 1000 rds. each, smallest cheapest reliablest 9mm I know of (yes, I know there is no such word). The P32 is what I take when nothing else will do. Incredibly small and light.

I don't understand the extraction problems my LCPs have, but they are real. I've ordered a couple extractors to play with because they are available cheap, but I don't hold out much hope. No limp wristing, I'm an experienced (old) IPSC and IDPA competitor/shooter.

Still a possibility it's all ammo related but getting less likely.

I did experience some issues initially with my new LCP with range ammo at my local indoor range- it only FTE’d twice at round 5 in the magazine -it seemed it was a. Hot b. The rim seemed smaller than standard c. The extractor seemed to gouge the brass

-and also the “flat” base plate seems to compress the spring more...

Update. 300 rounds thru my pre-owned LCP. My take; the previous owner, in 9 years, shot maybe 50 rounds and never cleaned it. At this point the gun runs flawlessly. I trust my life with it daily.

Probably 500+ estimate through my lcp. Two issues, both ammo related.
Mrs new lcp needs more range time to confirm, but 100% so far.

*side note for all LCP owners: the extended magazine is the bomb!

file down the sprue on the extractor. the one on my extractor was preventing the top round in the mag from rising up out of the mag into battery as the slide comes forward. you can check this out by manually pushing a case up into battery on your removed slide assembly. the case rim should slide behind the extractor hook smoothly. my extractor sprue prevented this until I filed it down.

I have small files and was able to file the extractor sprue while it was still in the slide.

As for a .380 for summer or any season carry,my PPK/s from 1985 is the
best.380 ever for me. Esp.since I added a beavertail to the back for $12.99
