Nothing special, DPMS 11.5/5.5 bbl on Stag upper w DD A1 rear.
Leupold RDS (standard knob)
Anderson lower w JP spring swap.
Reg cheap 6 pos buttstock and Ruger handguard (freebie).
I have yet to bench it, but adjusted the irons and was hitting pcs of clays at 75 offhand, repeatedly.
That really honked off the guys on the benches..........outshooting them, offhand.
1 in 9 twist and running 55gr, have had other builds and gotten 1 MOA or better benched.
55gr ball or Vmax all I run.

New RDS and mount added some weight, to a non light AR (heavy bbl under handguard).
Shoot and take pics this weekend hopefully

It's just nice to have a rifle set up and DONE.
Tired of having those almost the way I want them.
Thankfully my woods rifle for deer, the old 760 in .35 rem, has scope and sling,,,,,,,,,,is done.
Get the Steyr .30-06 scoped and done and maybe I can relax.

With the RDS on the AR, will need some green laser target illuminator of some sort ;)
At least the rifle is ready for any varmints.

Now I do have a lot of parts, most of them new. I should inventory them so that I know what I have,

Hookeye's build looks very nice, when mine looks well used.

Hookeye, What barrel did you use and did it come with the flash hider pined and welded or did you have to have it done?

Barrel is DPMS chrome lined 1 in 9 w factory attached flashhider.
11.5" w 5.5"
I like the looks of the old Bushmaster version better (no rings at back of flash hider).
Haven't shot mine much. Has a few marks on it due to being an AR and I don't worry about it.

The problem is..............the ol lady wants a second one built.
For her.
Lightweight w Sig Romeo 5.
uh...........700 needs an HS stock. Steyr needs a scope.
She wants an AR............she knows where the gun shop is LOL

Gunny,

I do like the worn A1 look w XM177 style bbl. Thought about a build like yours.

Went w a flattop for the DD rear and redot crowded close to it.
Came out what I wanted (rare thing).

Note: the mag has 55g V max in it.
Hopefully get out after deer season this yr and vape some yotes.
Buddy is a good caller, says he gets em in close, thick stuff......fast shooting.
Think my rig would be perfect for that.

The worn look is due to most of the parts were used. The only new parts are the lower, buffer, buffer spring, detents and detente springs. Everything else was used parts that I bought or were gifted. It’s my junkyard build.
You could build one for your lo lady for under $500.

See how well she likes the RDS on mine.
Might motivate her to get a lower and assemble her own.

So how are those PSA kits? They seem like almost too good a deal...
I've built several rifles and pistols with PSA Kits. I've never had a problem with any of their products.
One of the biggest cost factors is the barrel. The barrels in the Freedom kits are 4150 Chrome-Moly Vanadium Steel and nitride treated. If your not shooting a full auto or putting 50,000 to 60,000 rounds through your gun, the Freedom barrels will do you good.
Upper end barrels will run you $199 to $400. I have some rifles that have upper end barrels, but I have more rifles with 4150 Chrome-Moly Vanadium Steel and nitride treated barrels. They all shoot great.

2nded I've built a few PSA kits out now, nothing spectacular but issues.

What about the stainless barrels and the nitride barrels that bear creek offers? I've been looking at their 24" 6.5 grendel uppers for about 250.00, LPK with regular trigger and lower will run about 100.00, so a 6.5 grendel for about 360.00. They have other calibers that I've looked at to finish off some of the lowers I've got.

I’ve used Bear Creek barrels on some builds and they shoot just fine. I most likely have one or two extra Bear Creek barrels in my shop. I’ve also had good luck with barrels from Delta Team Tactical. They carry some barrels by XX-Tream Barrel Co. that I like. I have this one on my 458 Socom build.

I built a 20" 556 using delta team tacticals kit and have no complaints so far but it hasn't seen a lot of rounds but they don't offer a 24" 6.5 grendel kit which is what I want to build

Very nice!

My very first AR build looked very similar to that. I ended up pulling the barrel after 500ish rounds as the gas port was eroding causing extraction issues. I went to a midlength gas system after that but I really like the look of a 5.5" flash hider.
