Got a problem. Building a 300 BLK pistol and noticed the barrel has the gas port drilled .295" off the barrel shoulder. The block I have the gas port is drilled .295" off the front of the block. Does anyone know of any .750" gas blocks that have the port drilled .295" off the back face with a corresponding roll pin hole? I re-drilled the pin hole on mine and drilled all the way through the gas tube hole, flipped it around, but would like a cleaner looking option without all the extra holes. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like it? I've only built one .300 BO, did use two different gas blocks. (one adjustable, one not) I didn't measure that dimension, just assumed it was something standard but don't know that....I do know they both fit!

@RussellC - that’s Why I asked too. REALLY rare for blocks to be ported incorrectly, and I can’t imagine a manufacturer wouldn’t stand behind their product on an error like that.

I'm not the most experienced here by a large margin, I have read comments from people saying ports didn't line up when block was pushed all the way to the raised part on the barrel and needed to pull it out a small amount, nothing like this. Mine have always just needed to be lined up "side to side" by twisting it to proper alignment, my barrels are round of course! .750" is very common size, sounds like a defect, or different block needed.

So the .295" from the back face of the block would be the correct dimension? All the pictures of the gas blocks I've seen look just like the block I have where the gas port is in the front half of the block. Mine needs to be in the back half.

What gas block do you have? Every one I've personally seen has had the gas port in the proper orientation. Just did a quick Brownells search and as far as I can tell, everyone looks like the gas port is at the rear.

So you could make your self a straight-pull bolt action rifle with that block. ;)

As to brand, I couldn't tell you. It's not marked and I built the thing from a collection of parts from someone who abandoned the project with only half the parts to complete the build. I took another look and it must be that it was thrown in a jig backwards? I'm guessing they drill the gas tube hole last and the new guy put it in the wrong orientation. Your guess is as good as mine. I have a new block on order. As to the straight pull part, I wouldn't be so opposed to that because I'm going to use it for deer in Illinois as a pistol. But being a self ejecting single shot pistol is better.

The port location is indicated at .295” +0.005” off of the shoulder. So yes, the block port should be at the rear, since any gas block should be longer than .7” long.
