Let's see those "Smithies"!

I carry a 638 or Model 60 on those late night "Honey we need milk" runs, a Model 36 3" in leather for a trail gun and a couple of assorted other wheelies.

That's sort of like how I got hooked on the Model 38; except my use for it was carrying it in my pocket while walking the dog in some dodgy neighborhood late at night! Had it for a number of years then traded it in on some semi-auto. Redeemed myself some time later when I picked up a Model 649 and a Model 638.

Smithies and Wheelies...:barf: Oh well. At least you're interested in revolvers, which covers a multitude of sins. ;) :)

So I'll post a couple of mine. I don't carry them, but someone has. I'm much too lazy to lug around this much weight except in a range bag.

Model 15-2, 38 Special from 1966.

1953 K-22, Combat Masterpiece. 22 LR of course. Probably refinished, but whoever did it did a pretty good job IMHO.

I'm reasonably sure this one has never been carried, or even fired (outside the factory) but if I still bummed around in the woods it would be high on my list of guns to carry. It's a Model 317 AirLite, Lady Smith, an eight shot J-frame, in 22 LR from the late 90's as best I can tell. (I might drop S&W a line and see what they can tell me.) Aluminum frame and cylinder. Barrel is 2", aluminum, with a steel liner. Internal parts are steel. The gun weighs about 11 ounces unloaded. It feels so lite, it feels like you should tie it down to keep it from floating off. :)

Surprisingly enough, the trigger isn't too bad, which is unusual for a 22 J-frame.

Could take my wife's Model 34 for hiking on the backwoods trails but I'm sure I would hear about it later (besides I already have the perfect .22 backwoods companion with my Metalifed Beretta Model 70S)!

An old wartime issued M&P that I have would be a good choice in a .38 Special revolver for hiking around with as well. Still in great shape after all these years!

I also have been known to carry my Model 686 around sometimes though I haven't done it in awhile. Surprisingly comfortable to carry in an old Uncle Mike's shoulder holster, nowadays I generally opt for a smaller/lighter semi-auto to take along.

Well maybe a trifle heavy for carrying or as a trail gun but certainly can't fault it with that kind of accuracy!

Okay, (LOL) I was thinking a shoulder rig, but, fair enough.... howsabout this one ?

640-1. Cop trade-in. Came with wore-out Uncle Mike's rubber, I found the period correct magnas cheap, 'cause they are worn out too.
The T-grip allows me to hang on to that li'l sucker, but I still don't shoot much full-house 357 through it.

Better ?

Smithies? Wheelies?

I try not to let terms like that irritate me but I just gritted my teeth a little bit and said a foul word when I read it.

Revolvers need to be called Roscoe or Heater.

But with Cagney and Bogart gone they don't make great bad guy movies anymore.

Yes, much better! Definitely something I would love to carry everywhere!

Here's my only S&W revolver currently. I always wanted a model 60 manufactured the same year I was born but put in on the back burner for some time. I stumbled upon it on GB of all places, $400 like-new-in-box (complete with cleaning brush/rod still in plastic, user's manual and receipt of sale from 1976, all in a near pristine box).

I'm on a retro Colt kick right now (Colt 1903, Colt Gov't .380, etc) but I plan on replacing the 686 I sold years ago. A 629 is also calling my name.

That was a STEAL!!! I'd give $400 all day long for one 80% of that condition with no box or tools. I can easily sell them around here for $500. Great gun. In my opinion, the best Carry J Frame Smith and Wesson out there. I prefer to carry a 3" K frame but in the summer under a light t-shirt, I'm most likely carrying a model 60
