Hi everyone,
just wondering if the Mossberg 802 Plinkster is a good 22LR,
I am getting my first 2 guns (the other is a S/H Winchester 94 .30-30 for larger game) and i am wondering if this is a good rabbit and small game gun, thanks.

I purchased one used 2 or 3 yrs ago with a center point scope and I have had no problems, my grandkids can shoot it and I enjoy it also. Make sure you get a mag, new ones are about 25 - 30 dollars and it doesn't like 22 short

I have a 702, which is the semi-auto version, and am really happy with it. It feels more like a Red Ryder BB gun than a real firearm, but it shoots great. Semi auto vs bolt will make a difference, but the 702 shoots a hair worse than my Marlin 60 and better than my factory-stock 10/22.

For the $107 I paid, I've got no complaints about either the accuracy or the functioning.

The trigger on the 702 has lots of rough creep and a nasty break, which really limits its accuracy potential, but is otherwise a pretty good .22. Not sure if the 802 uses the same trigger.

I would get the Savage MK2 myself, its about the same price and a better gun, IMO.

This would be my sentiment. The 802 isn't a bad rifle by any means, but IMO the Savage Mark II is better in about the same price range. I have a heavy barrel Mark II that is half MOA accurate with my questionable shooting ability. The Accutrigger is probably one of the biggest reasons for that, by far the best stock trigger I've felt.

I like mine.

Besides the trigger, and aftermarket support, I don't think the savages have any advantage. My guns a heavy barrel 802 shoots 1/2moa or better with ammo it likes.
I like the gun so much I took the effort to drop it into an 817 stock,.which ended up being a lot of work lol.
I got the trigger pull on my 802 down to 3lbs, and the breaks always been pretty clean. It was just heavy.

That's a handsome rifle!

I dropped my Mark II in a Boyds laminate stock, don't know how much of an accuracy difference it made but man does it make it look nice. The OEM stock is really my only complaint with Savage, as I replaced the original stocks on both my Savages.

Thanks!

Yeah the standard Savage stocks aren't fantastic. I had a 93r17 btvss and it had a nice stock but was way too short

I have both.

Only because the Mossberg still works and was my Grandfather's.

It is the only firearm I've had a case rupture with. In its self a strange occurrence. (Surely they cannot fire while unlocked?)
Though I will not knock it. It works and is accurate. I just don't like it much.

The Savage MkII is not quite in the same class. Even their Rascals. Which I also have one of. Truly a great deal in rimfires I think.
One of mine also wears a Boyds.(I guess I have two.) But the plastic stock is servicable for a Rimfire that sees rain. Or kids...
;)

Nice Mossy, Wulf.

Now those T-bolts... Those look nice. I can't wait to try one.:)

Yeah, I've been considering a more upscale .22 bolty and the T-bolts a ways up the list.
