Remington 1911s GTG ?

They're not high end, but they do work well. I have one of their basic R1 1911s and have had no problems with it.

Bought mine 2 years ago (made in Huntsville) - $399 after $100 cash rebate. Great deal for the basic 1911 with very good fit & finish.

I had a stainless basic model a few years ago. Bought it because my truck gun was going in the shop for awhile. I was pleasantly surprised. It functioned with everything I tried and shot well. The only mod I made was for a longer trigger. My hands are too big for that stubby trigger. When I got my truck gun back, I sold it for a profit, and I've recommended them since.

I have an R-1 in 45 ACP.

Bought it when they first came out. I read a review in The American Rifleman and decided that I had to have one.

It, and a Taurus PT140 MIL PRO in my collection are the only handguns I own that I wish I never bought. Many reasons but I say this simply as a statement to be very careful if you decide to purchase this. Don't look at the price, look at the actual gun. Get what you really want even if it means saving up some dollars.

It does shoot however and that may be the only consideration for a handgun purchase.

My Remington Ultralight Executive 45 is as nice a gun as I have owned and is my current carry. I did have to replace the spring running between the manual safety and slide lock. The factory spring was just too light to hold the slide lock in place (it was about 2/3rds the length of the replacement spring). Since then, the gun has run 100%.

I’ve had the R1S for a few years (Ilion made) I've read but can not attest the stainless frames are machined while the blued are cast. I've shot whatever ammo that came along without a hitch. I will say mine has the best trigger I've ever pulled. I really don't remember why I chose it when I was 1911 shopping but I'm glad I did. One of if not my favorite pistol.



When I brought it home from the FFL I put a target up in my front yard at a measured 30 yards (90 feet) I fired 3 rounds with it. When I walked up to the target I said "thats good enough". From the date on this pic I must have owned it for nearly 5 years.

I have a 9mm Enhanced and the standard R1 in stainless, both fantastic pistols.

I looked at an R1 a number of years ago when I decided to get a new 1911 range gun. Just wanted a basic gun, nothing fancy or with a lot of extras. The R1 was decent enough but I found a Colt Government that was even nicer (very well built with a great trigger too), so I went with the Colt. If I was in the market for a 1911 today (especially at that price), I would give the R1 another look.

I have had 2, a basic R1 and an R1 Enhanced double stack. Both are decent enough and have been reliable with any ammo.

I no longer have the basic R1, but that one would hold under an inch at 20 yards when I was on. My R1 Enhanced isnt that accurate, but still plenty good for a HD occasional carry option.

I'm seriously wanting to get hands on a R1 Recon Commander Double Stack in 9mm to really evaluate it. My best friend has an R1 and loves it. I've shot it and it works fine.

I think the Remington R1s and Ruger SR1911s are solid values these days.

I hope they're GTG. I bought a .45 Enhanced Commander in stainless last summer, and just haven't gotten around to shooting it. It seems very nicely put together, though.

Same here I bought it not long after it came out....mine has just worked.

I have told this story before, but will say it again.

I played a couple games with it after I first got it, shot practice one night then the match on....Friday night I want to say. I needed (all this from my old man memory) 4 mags for the thing. It came with two, so I bought two more "good" mags, then bought 4 cheapo chinese mags that everyone says will just not work. Well the thought of dropping that much money on the concrete floor bothered me for some stupid reason so I started shooting the cheapo mags...and they just worked, never a hickup. The would bend if they hit the ground just right...or wrong I guess would be better to say....but a little re bend with the pliers and good to go.

I also cleaned that thing once all season....I would take it out of the case and its nose would be really dirty...took all kinds of guff for it, but I really wanted to see just how well the gun would run....I suck at pistol shooting so why not...if it stopped running no real biggie. Never one issue. The same could not be said for guys with guns costing 4X as much....they had to be squeaky clean.

Next 1911 I am looking at is going to be in 38 super....thinking of giving the Rock Island a go and doing the same thing to it....just see how well it will run if forced to run hard and be put away wet.

I have heard that they aren't bad entry level 1911's. My opinion, a 1911 in anything but 45 or maybe 38 super seems... off.

Agreed. Wish I had tried 9mm much earlier in my 1911 explorations. I have a whole safe full of .45 1911s yet I always seem to grab my 9mm 1911 when shooting. Carry it too.

Still need a .38 Super yet, but mostly because I am intrigued in reloading for it.

Get a .38 Super and for the price of a barrel assembly and some magazines you can also have yourself another 9mm.!

I actually talked to Dan Wesson a while back and they said they could fit a .38 super barrel on my 9mm Valkyrie, so I'll probably go that route when I get the itch

All you have to do for that is to replace the 9mm. ejector with one for a .38 Super. Or you could shorten the existing 9mm. ejector to accommodate the slightly longer .38 Super case.
