as the title states I'm looking to get into the big bore game, want something between 41 and 45 caliber
whats out there good on price and the eyes and can stand up to the swamp and the deserts? the mountains and the beaches? from plinking at the range to backpacking in the woods?
won't buy another ruger handgun sorry, would rather just throw the cash in the trash for the coons who live under my porch

I can only recommend the Kimber K6s. A .357 unfortunately, but the other companies have gone down into the pits as far as quality is concerned. Anything other than a pre lock stainless smith will rust and/or corrode in operational conditions. I have kept mine in my truck for a few years now and no sign of rust. A hot loaded .357 out of that little gun will get the job done several times over.

i have a pile of old ruger revolvers I wouldn't melt down for the scrap value because the metal is so poor it wouldn't be right selling it to the chinamen

Freedom Arms if you want a Cadillac. Expensive but worth it in my mind. With a 2nd cylinder you can shoot 45acp in the .454 version if you like.

Sorry to hear Ruger left you so upset, not common.

Older S&W .44's should also serve you well.

Dan Wesson could also be an option as would be other less common makers. Colts are out there still but $$ for what they are in my mind.

no their customer service was just fine, unlike the two GP100s and one security six I owned, I do like their long guns, but honestly Id never purchase another piece of junk like that would rather drive a kia from 2003 for the remainder of my life that make a decision as dumb as that
@Ohen Cepel what do you think about the re-production classic model 29 in the 6 and 1/2 config? thats what I am looking at, found it on gun broker for a steal new

Not the one you asked, but I will chime in. The new production 29 is a fine gun but needs care or will rust immediately in poor conditions like the swamp. Unfortunately poor quality Chinese steel is the norm today, look for a much older model.

One option made with quality steel is a Colt .41 lc double action. My 1896 is a high quality piece and while I take good care of it, I have no doubt it would stand up to service use.

I like the N frame S&W revolver, preferably chambered for the 45 ACP cartridge. I have a few of them. Here are some of the ones with 4” barrels. The oldest is a 1917. The fixed sighted ones are M22-4. The stainless is a 625-6 Mountain Gun and the blued one next to it is a M28-2 reworked to 45ACP.

All of them go in my everyday holster, some more than others. The 625 has the least amount of holster time but only because it is the newest of the bunch.

Unless you have to have a magnum, the ACP is a lot of cartridge.

@StrawHat nice smiths sir, I was really looking for a magnum or a 45 long colt as I already have a jerry in 45 auto and of course more 1911s then I have fingers
those pre locks are beautiful though and those grips are not too bad either

FWIW, I have not liked my Ruger SP101's at all, but my SA Rugers are very good. My 44 magnum SBH is probably my favorite firearm.

Another favorite firearm is my S&W Model 625 in 45acp. It's an N frame, stainless steel, with a 5" barrel. It's ridiculously accurate, has a great trigger, stainless, and shoots a fat cartridge that is cheap and widely available. You can use moonclips, but I don't even bother. The empties tap out easily enough, and I'm not a competition shooter.

There is also a version in 45colt, IIRC.

It's a super-nice revolver. My friend at the LGS was so excited for me to have it that he let me have it at a very nice price. He and I shoot together sometimes, and he likes for me to have a chance to be competitive.

If you handload, no need to get a magnum nor a long Colt. The ACP can equal the long Colt from the modern N frame.

Only three of those pictured are built prior to the introduction of the storage lock. As it is the lock is not troublesome to me. If it were, 20 minutes and some hand tools removes it and install’s a plug.

The stocks are various bits of angle and grip adapters with the exception of the 1917. That one wears service stocks and a grip adapter.

from the way you bash rugers, id say you never owned one. let me guess there customer service is bad to.
I had to send two rugers in for CS in 2018 alone, from two different facilities one from the NC plant and the other from the New Hampshire plant. Others have reported the same thing, QC has gone down a bit. Just cause you haven't had it happen doesn't mean it hasn't happened. BTW Ruger CS was great both times I did have to use it.

If you are new to shooting bigger cartridges, And dont wanna invest an arm and a leg, try a Taurus. Their quality and customer service has gotten alot better the last few years, and Ive fallen in love with their expansion chamber/porting they have on the trackers and raging bulls. They make for a pleasant shooting experience, and I know they hold up well in the rain and swamps of Alaska. I would like to hear more about your experience with Rugers as well. What has made you doubt their metallurgy?

And yet those “junk Rugers” will digest loads that will quickly turn a 29 to junk, so what exactly is your stated purpose for said big-bore?

To ruffle feathers apparently .:neener:

I'd like to hear the issues OP had with his three rugers.

I've had a couple of issues with mine. But they were fixed in a timely matter and have been rock solid since . Still my preferred brand . Untill maybe I can afford a BFR ,LOL

Apparently he’s already been banned, but I suspect he/she is still here hiding under a different handle.
