Is it time to fortify your ammo cache

If you can afford to buy some ammo, buy some ammo. I know last year I found better deals with guns and ammo than what I have found so far this year, so this year I haven't spent as much, but I still buy some here and there to keep on hand.

With ammo of all types avaliable and at a pretty darn good price. Do my fellow gunners believe in filling the larder to door busting levels? The reason I ask is there is an election in 16 months. And you never know what may happen. I am at the over full level myself. But I still buy a box of 22 or 9mm here and there. All other calibers I reload.
Do you think a run on ammo will happen again? Even without another mass shooting?
I think it is inevitable that another run on ammo will occur. Some of these less thoughtful liberal politicians will use ammo tax and restrictions as a back door to limiting gun rights if they can.

I took this opportunity to buy a veritable smorgasbord or ammo flavors, 14 in all, to try out in various firearms and see if any behave better than others in specific firearms.
Of that, 1 is some Shorts, and one is some Longs, just because I want them and want to try them. :D

I ordered another 1000 rounds of 9mm 115gr ammo. Why? Why not. it was on sale for $158.49 shipped.:)
what flavor?

I've seen steel cased over at SG Ammo for something below $140/1000 (need to add shipping though.)
I'm kinda holding out on more 9mm until another expected rebate from Federal or CCI crops up, pushing their 115gr and 124gr offerings to $0.13/rnd again. My log sheet says I should be good (moving averages: 90day/6.00years, 365day/4.57years, lifetime/3.73years) but another case is always good regardless. :D

It never hurts to buy ammo. A little here and now is all ways good. If you reload buying primers, powder, bullets, and brass is a good thing to do. Buy big and store well. I still have powder from the 80's that is good as new. Learn to cast bullets and how to make gas checks and lubes also helps. Things are not going to get better, they never do. Over haft of the people in America are fools and will run as fast as they can to socialism. So now is the time to get ready.

Never again will I say, in my mind, that I can't shoot 22LR, because I won't be able to restock, even though, I had plenty on hand. If you aren't piled high by now, it just isn't a concern of your's, to not be able to shoot, at will, whenever you want, or the money maybe, just isn't there. I was stocked for everything else, during the last scare, but I will admit, the 22LR thing took me completely off guard, and just couldn't imagine no 22's on the shelves, for that long, and at the price they were asking. Never again, now stocked, and resupplied, ready for the next wave.

Few years back Walmart was closing out .380 ammo. They had 17 boxes left at $5 each. Bought every one and tried a couple of other stores.

Anybody who was a member here after Sandy Hook should remember the hundreds of posts whining about not having ammo.

Right now over got about 15k of .22’s. Should probably have 2-3x that.

When CA got cut-off from direct online shipments I stocked up. .45 was at $325+/1000 and 9mm was $200-$225/1000. .38/.357 was not wallet friendly so my wheel guns are starving. These days 9mm locally is $170-$225/1000. I see online (Target Sports) is even better but by the time the local dealer has their hand in for the transaction, it is nearly same price.

The one difference is the variety that is tough to come by at the local shops. Speer Lawman or some of the German stuff like Men or Ruag aren't seen. 50 round boxes of HST don't last long so I seldom walk into a store where I could walk out with some. The 20 count boxes are at WalMart readily.

About the only way I can see feeding the wheels guns would be to roll my own.

Those pics of Gunny's ammo cans are :D

I use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of my ammo purchases and inventory. I am pleasantly surprised of my inventory. How much did you ask? I can only say I hurt my back as result of moving these ammo during my last house move.

I also use it for "gap analysis" see which caliber I can use some "beefing up". The difficulty is in some exotic calibers that seem always expensive to stock up such as 45LC +P, especially in Buffalo Bore or Underwood brands of ammo, as they rarely go on sale. But then again, how many rounds for "bear load" does one need to stock up?

One of the things that sticks in my mind even now from the last ammo panic (which wasn't the last ammo panic BTW)was the people on this board that were damning all the hoarders. What I find interesting now is that I see some of the same voices refusing to stock now and still damning all the hoarders.

I've said it before I got caught short last time and I paid for it and I decided then that I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that never happens again.

At my current rate of consumption I would say that I have an estimated between five and seven years supply on hand. We don't have a specific timetable of what we want to buy in a year. We have a designated amount of money that we set aside for ammunition from every paycheck and when we find a good sale we buy as much as we can reasonably afford.

I say this every time this topic comes up but I am absolutely convinced that the last ammo panic wasn't the last ammo panic and when the next one comes I want to be situated for it.

The last ammo panic lasted really for the whole of Obama's 8 year term. Bearing that in mind I don't think having a 10-year supply on hand is ridiculous.

So the next ammo panic when all of you people that like to damn the hoarders are posting in Fred's here about damming the hoarders I'm not going to say I told you so but it will be thinking it

I started shooting and hunting during the last panic. Not lots of fun. So since things loosened up I have learned to reload, taken up casting, and added muzzleloaders to my collection. Needless to say, stocking up on components has been ongoing. When the next run happens, I plan to ignore it other than not paying up for what I use. The only steps I haven't taken are buying a flintlock and figuring out how to make my own black powder (yet). A brand new indoor range is opening up 10 minutes from the house and I expect my rate of consumption to bump up considerably when that happens.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours. :D

It's always a good time to buy ammo, except during a panic. Prices are good now. I got caught with a little lower than I would've liked last panic, but always had enough of a cushion to not worry. I don't have any time to shoot or money for range fees right now and started selling some stuff I haven't used in years, but due to low prices, I'm tempted to add to what I have...
Also, panics happen in large part from people that don't plan ahead. These are the same people that drive around with a quarter tank of gas and don't contribute to a 401K or IRA and don't have life insurance. The crazy thing is that with info so readily available online now, people make even worse decisions now.

I was caught short in the "Great Panic of 2008" . I was caught short in every caliber. I said to self, self don`t do that again ! So 11 years later I have enough ammo that if ammo was currency I might be considered a wealthy man. It is never a bad time to buy ammo.

It gives me joy to read everyone has so much ammo on hand. This is good because there should be no more shortages.

Unfortunately I think there will be panic shortages. People like those of us on this and other boards represent only a very small portion of the gun owning public. Like the last rush it'll be enhanced by the opportunistic scalpers who make reselling part of their livelihood. One only has to look back the shortages of the 90's (Clinton AWB), 2008 (O'Bama election) and Sandy Hook to realize that the majority of people do not learn to be prepared.

I wish I could say I have enough ammunition but, alas, I don't even consider myself close. This darn thing called life keeps getting in the way. In the last few months we had to buy a new microwave, washer and dryer and stove, new riding mower. Before that was a broken water line that cost $2,400.00. We want to replace the hot water tank this year. (The riding mower will pay for itself in just a few months as the bagging attachment let's us use the clippings to feed the horses but it still means no ammo money).

Then there are darn medical bills. I think I am funding my dentist next cruise vacation.

It is not all bad. As a result of the last panic and the realities of what is going to happen if the Democrats win the Presidency I have organized and inventoried my ammo and reloading supplies. It is pretty discouraging to see the holes in what I have and realizing I didn't have as much as I though I had in some calibers. But I now know where I need to add more and lets me focus my ammo buying. I have actually been staying on track this year with filling those holes.

Times are very unstable. Now that Pelosi has started publicly using the "I" word she may become the gun and ammo Salesperson of the Year.
