What was the first gun you ever bought for yourself?

First was a 10/22 and shortly after was a Type 99 which started my path to milsurp addiction.

My first was a Marlin/Glenfeild .22 that never made it through a magazine without jamming ,someone swiped that one, I didnt miss it too much , my first big gun was a Mossberg 500 in 12 Ga. I fugured that i would be able to hunt anything with it so that was the beginning . My first pistol was a High Standard .22 revolver i found it at a little gun shop in 1985 and I still have it. My first centerfire rifle was my Marlin 30/30

S&W Model 67-1. Used police surplus. I wanted a 66 but the 67 was less expensive and I couldn't afford the difference at the time. When the 67 arrived it was skipping chambers and I spent more than the cost of "upgrading" to the 66 getting it repaired. I'd still like a 19/66 but I wouldn't trade my 67 for one. It's a very nice gun in it's own right.

Astra 400, 9mm Largo.

Bought it at a gunshow in Oklahoma City, early 1980s. Back then, ammo was much more difficult to find. There was no internet, I had never even heard of a home computer.
Finally found some Spanish surplus from the 50s at a now defunct funshop on MacArthur Blvd. It came in boxes of 25, I bought all he had, maybe 6 or 7 boxes.
When I discovered that 38ACP could be fired from it, that's what it was fed.

That gun was stolen around 1986, by a crazy woman I was seeing. I'm just glad she didn't shoot me with it as she left.

I bought a Remington 511-X 22 rifle in 1962 with money I earned hoeing weeds out of cotton (chopping cotton) for $.50 per hour. Still have it, still shoot it.

Winchester pre-everything Model 94 in .32 Special.

Colt Huntsman, 1968. I still have it. shoots great, works great.

Mine was an Ithaca 12 gauge model 37 in 1969 after getting discharged from the Army. 50 years later I own a few more, mostly handguns. The old Ithaca was sold during my 40's when I was too drunk to own a gun. Now 30 years as a friend of Bill W, am sober and I don't feel the same need to put and end to it.

Can't say I'm a friend of Bill W, but I most definitely know who he is.

20 years and 5 months for me.

First rifle (age 18) Gelnfield 60. First handgun (age 22) Taurus 66. Both cheap, but very reliable. All I could afford at the time.

I was 14 in 1970 when I used $150 from my summer job to purchase an Ithaca/ski model 300 12 ga featherweight semi automatic. Very reliable but what a bruiser. 6 years later traded it even at the lgs for a used Remington 1100 which was a pitiful jamming piece of frustration. Never really cared for Remington products since. Have always been happy with the many skb shotguns I've purchased over the years.

It was 1980 or '81 -- I bought a raffle ticket at a gun show for $5 and won a Ruger 10/22. I'd give considerably more than 5 bucks to have that particular 10/22 back as it "disappeared" one day while I was at work and in the middle of a contentious divorce. (Please disregard the three newer ones in my safe.)

I am going to have a tough time remembering exactly which was the first new gun I bought, but I am pretty sure it was a Winchester model 1300 pump shotgun: raised rib, ventilated barrel, from Sears Roebuck about 1981. The first new handgun was either an Erma EXcam rx22 (ppk knock off in 22 RF) which was cheap, but a great deal of fun and amazingly reliable, or a Ruger stainless Security Six with a 2 3/4 bbl. Boy, I wish I still had that. I think I paid 229. for that about 82 or 83.

Marlin 39a golden mountie , bought it in 1972 from my uncle for $50. Still have it today, nice little rifle.

High Standard Sentinel Imperial .22 9 shot revolver in 1962 from Michael's Department Store in Rochester, Minnesota. I still have the original box and the manual. I'm guessing about $27.00.

Remington Nylon 66.

11 years old I bought a Rem 788 in 6 mm with paper rote money. Stolen from me in 2115.

A Smith & Wesson Model 19, wish I still had it!

I don't recall my first gun. I do remember my first new out of the box gun.

First gun I bought myself....age 18.... 1959...mail order from Ye Olde Hunter, Alexandria VA.....Enfield #1 mark 3* from 1918::$ 9.99 cod delivered by UPS. Put a US M1907 leather sling on it for $2.50 from a local army-Navy store and for another $1:25 got a 1907 Wilkinson sword Enfield Bayonet with royal arsenal markings. (Turned down an offer for $200 for the bayonet alone in the 80s) Still have it (60 yrs later). Still shoots good but doesn’t go to the range often and I only keep 200 rounds of 303 British on hand. When I go my second son (only one of three that also is into guns) will inherit it and my others
To eventually go to his two boys. I wish a return to those days was possible, but in today’s society never ever going to happen. As an aside relative to this gun I got on a local bus with it in hand, rode into downtown Worcester MA, walked down Main St by City Hall carrying it right past a cop to catch a bus to Springfield Ma. Nobody said a thing to me at all....Try that today and I’d be assuming the position
