I have a Ruger 357 GP100 listed for sale on Armslist. I've been offered a straight trade for the Remington. Is anyone familiar with this Remington from a quality standpoint? It's not a gun I need, and if they're not reliable I'd rather wait for a cash deal.

The Rem R1 Double Stack is essentially the old Para Ordinance P14-45 frame.
The Para's had some quality and reliability issues when they moved from Canada to the US, and further issues when Remington and Freedom group took them over. I think unless you know the gun runs like a top, I would pass.

You can currently get those for $447 after rebate, I think your GP100 is worth more than that personally.

Edit never mind it’s not the double stack

I'd keep the GP100 personally but if you're done with it then get what you can for it. I'd personally shy away from Remington anything and double stacks in particular unless you have personally verified reliability.

I have had a couple Canadian 14-45s and they've been great for me. More recent mag followers need some fluff and buff. I haven't shot a para USA or a Remington. But they are not well regarded.

Too late but I'd do it. I didn't particularly love my GP100 and really quite like my R1 Enhanced double stack.

It's got a good trigger, is quite accurate for the price (much like my basic R1) and mine has been completely reliable with both the factory mags and the Mec Gar P 14.45 mags I mostly use.

Mine has served quite a bit of nightstand and woods duty, hard to argue with 15 rounds of .45

I agree about the 15 rounds of 45. One of the reasons I declined is that I have a FNX 45, which serves as my nightstand gun, so I'm covered in that regards. I'm glad yours has worked well for you.
