Family Fun Shoot Memorial weekend is here

As you all know we have a "My Johnson is bigger than your Johnson" every year with our reloading equipment. This year's theme is "My brass is cleaner than your brass".

The entries this year are as follows.
1. Sonic cleaner. Hornady, RCBS, and Lyman. each will have two runs. One with the recommended additive and one with the owners own mix. Max time allowed for each run is two hours with 100 9mm and 100 .223 for each run.
2. Meda Tumblers. Dillon, Hornady, and RCBS. Each will have two runs. One with corn cob and one with walnut. Max run time will be 2 hours with 100 9mm and 100 .223 for each run.
3. Wet tumblers. Frankford Arsenal, Hornady, and RCBS. Each will have two runs. One with the recommended additive and One with the owners own mix. Max time allowed for each run is 2 hours. with 100 9mm and 100 .223 for each run.

Now, all brass has been deprimed and was buried for 1 year. It all was dug up last weekend by my brass monkey. It was all put through the cement mixer for an hour to just get the mud and rocks off. But it is as dirtier than hell.

Now if any of you have some off the wall mixture that you want me to try let me know and we will run that too.

Well, here are the findings of "My brass is cleaner than your brass".
1. Sonic cleaner. The easy winner was my Hornady. But I do have the larger one that has 4 transducers. All were checked every 1/2 hour and the Hornady cleaned the outside, inside and primer pockets within 1 hour. Lyman came in second but it took 2 hours to get the same results that the Hornady got in 1 hour. After 2 hours the RCBS still did not get the pockets clean.
2. Meda tumbler. Clear winner Dillon on both walnut and corn cob. I think this is due to the fact that it was a larger tumbler than the Hornady and the RCBS. The Dillon got the outside and the pockets clean with the Walnut and the outside with corn cob. Both Hornady and RCBS didn't get the primer pockets perfectly clean so they tied at second place. (First loser)
3. Wet tumbler. Clear winner Frankford Arsenal, Hornady second and RCBS third. Frankford Arsenal had the outside, inside and pockets clean within an hour. Hornady took 2 hours to get the same results. RCBS still had a little black in the pockets after 2 hours.

Now, the best job out of all thee methods was the Frankford Arsenal wet tumbler. It was found that it didn't matter on whether you used the manufacturers cleaning solution or your own mix in both the wet tumbler or the sonic cleaner.

Now some of you wanted the media tumbler to have Nu Finish added. It didn't help with the cleaning but it did help with the dust.

We had a special run with the wet tumblers. We had one with Tide pods, one with Orange juice, and one with 2 cans of beer. All came out fine.

We also ran a special run with the media tumblers. All I have to say about this is Rice, Cat litter and Sand DOES NOT WORK.

Now as far as the shooting part of the "Family fun shoot" I took second to last place. Enough said about that. And now to go clean up after the rain damage.
