What are the loads you use for your 308 wins. Target or hunting loads. I use mostly military brass, I did a quick load for my remington 700 and the 165 Sierra gkhp. And imr4895 that shot very good. Looking at different powders to use to.
My 308 is a SS 700 with a takeoff remington mili spec barrel. Twist is 1-11 1/4. At 24'' b&c m40 medalist. Topped with Leopold Mark 4 base, Leopold prw rings and a swfa ss 10. I'd like to get some lower rings one day. I mostly shoot this from prone, on a Harris.

I've had good results with 41.5gr of IMR4895 out of my RPR using 165gr Speer BTSP's. This makes a good all purpose round that is easy on the shoulder. Works equally well with 168gr BTHP match projectiles

On the warm side approaching max in the Hornady 10th edition manual... 42.3gr of IMR4895 using the same projectile works well for me too. The hogs don't like this one. I haven't tried this one with the match projectiles yet.

I'm working up some Varget loads but nothing I'm satisfied with so far..

I used mixed head stamp NATO brass for all of these loads. It's 90% LC of various years.

thanks. the one quick load i did with the sierra was around 41.3 4895 i believe, i just used the lee dipper then. that load was 1/4 moa. but i only got 40 or so left, the speer are probably the bullets ill get next. something for target and deer and cheap. i use LC and wcc brass most.

I'm shooting a Rem 700 308 with a Rock Creek M24 5R 11:27 twist 21" barrel with a muzzle brake to stop bounce shooting off a Bi Pod and rear bag setup . I only shoot benchrest so my load is 40.84 grains of IMR 4064 , Sierra 168gr. HPBT MK with a .002 jump and .001 - .002 of case headspace no more or less . Only distance I shoot is 200 yards , Max. for the ranges in my area . Using a bedded HS Precision stock , rifle is completely blueprinted with a Jewell set at 10 ounces . Once you get use to it it feels like any other trigger. added a riser on the stock for cheekweld . It's my one and only for many years , never got the itch to shoot another . Just love shooting it , I've been shooting it so long it's a part of me by now . Be Well

IMR4895 has always disappointed me in my Savage .308 24" barrel... IMR4064 is clearly the winner in my rifle with 168grn SMK or NCC's. Although I have transitioned to commercial RP cases, my original loads were with LC or WCC military brass. I'm not saying IMR4895 isn't useful... I was whacking the 700yd 12" gong earlier this year with it...

Several years ago I got a great deal on several thousand WCC 10 cases all cleaned and deprimed. While I load depending on the rifle I have had some very good loads using AA 2495 in a Remington 700 VSSF which I trued years ago. I like 44 grains of the AA 2495 using Sierra Match King 150 grain bullets at 2860 FPS. I use that same powder with the Sierra 168 grain BTHP match bullets with good results also.

thanks, do you shoot at a range down there or come upstate, i did some twecking to my trigger it's just under 1 1/5 pounds.

I've only used a few powders in 308. IMR3031 , IMR4895 and AA2495.

saw no difference between the 2495 and 4895 at all whatsoever, but I've used the 2495 because it's generally cheaper!
My load is fairly stout (43 grains with a 150) and is decently accurate.

my bolt gun load is with IMR3031. The velocity drops off a bit, but the accuracy is top shelf.

I shoot at the Brookhaven range , Suffolk County LINY, I'm not familiar with any ranges upstate . 1.5 lb trigger , once you get use to the weight there's no difference . I also shoot off a fixed Harris . I tried 3 different powders at first , IMR 4064 , RL15 and Varget . For some reason my rifle didn't like Varget , shot best with 4064 , RL15 a close second . I only shoot benchrest and only at 200 yards so I found the lightest load that shoots a consistent .5 with good conditions 75° low wind. The lowest you can get your scope without touching the barrel of course is best . Rock solid rings and mount along with a good scope setup . You have a great setup , it's nice when things work out . Be Well and Shoot straight.

thanks, i have heard of that range. i am up in orange co. ya when i get the money ill get lower ring, i think that was the only height for the prw 30mm when they first came out. this set up has proven to be very tuff, i went hunting with it 2 years ago last day off rifle season. when dragging my deer down the steep snowy hill. i fell on my back, the rifle was slug over my back. the turrets scraped the frozen ground for 10 feet. not a scratch on the rifle or scope.

4895 shot good but the fps seamed low and there was a good bit of smoke.

I am running lapua sm rifle primer brass (palma) with 168 gr Sierra Match King and 42.0 grains of IMR 8208-XBR out of a 24" Savage 10 1:10 twist. .4" groups if i do my part at 100 yards. I did a ton of testing with a variety of powders.

I have sort of the same problem... I just don't think it was the most efficient powder choice. Unfortunately, I have over 16# of IMR4895 to burn up... I'll use it in my M1 and M1a loads... eventually. Someone mentioned IMR3031... that's my choice for 150grn bullets, and/or short barrels. As much as I like IMR4895, particularly for the M1 Garand, I'll probably leave it behind when I use it up... I've gained a great deal of respect for IMR3031 (in the lighter .30's) and IMR4064 (in the heavies, or longer barrel of the Savage.)

thanks, nice rifle.i like a CRF action. what doe's it weigh all done up.

9lb 2oz

Another note on that load. It also performed similar with the same rifle in stock trim with the FN chrome lined 26” barrel it had before I customized it.

At 2,523 fps it’s not going to win any long range rifle matches but it’s accurate and kills deer with alacrity

yup i like 3031, i always have some around. i did a 150 hornady sp with 3031 shot fine, bt again just a quick dipper load.

My go to heavy woods load in .308 Win. for my Rem 742 carbine is 45 grains of IMR 4064 under a 165 grain round nose bullet. Work up because its a max load !!!. I know I've killed 50-60 deer with that gun and load over the years. hdbiker

Sierra 168gr MK only.
I like 42.5gr Varget in Lapua brass for my .308 Barrett MRAD - 4 or 5 shot group here (don't recall) 100 yds. Definitely one of my better ones. I like RE-15 powder too with similar powder weight.

In the rifle pic - the MRAD is below the Barrett M82 and above the FN SCAR 17H (lying down).
The MRAD currently has a Vortex Razor HD Gen II scope on it (not in the pic)
