Sigh.... New itch...

Once you shoot a 9mm PCC you might change your mind. My CX4 in 9mm is so easy to shoot its a joy. The lack of recoil makes fast follow up shots easy. The extra barrel length gets you to about 357 velocities. So you basically have a semi auto 357 with 15 to 30 round magazine capacity

I painted my front sight ramp red but tried something else also. I cut a small piece of fiber optic rod and glued it to the top of the sight. Really shows up,now to try it out.

Let us know how that works out........... All of us older guys would be interested..... Most of us, anyway.

With my renewed interest in 9mm carbines I ran across this thread and having just passed my 84th thought I could join in.... LOL. I've really enjoyed the read and the thoughts being posted in this thread. Recently the fire flared up again and I started researching the issue for me. It's now come down to the Beretta Cx4 Storm and the Ruger PC Carbine. The Ruger is pulling ahead if for no other reason than the possible use of Glock mags since I do have a Glock in the inventory. Some other items come to mind like being a USA company with good customer service. Anyway, I'm enjoying the research and trying to make a decision. The Cx4 does sound like a sweet carbine, if one can be found at this time.

Now which model Ruger PC Carbine: My primary interest is in the model 19100 with the standard forearm but also looking at the new model 19115 with the Aluminum Free-Float Handguard. Does anyone have a Free-Float Handguard on their carbine and if so what do you think?

Anyway, I'm enjoying the research and the knowledge gained.

While I had my FFL I had a number of 9mm Hipoint carbines run through my books.

I shot most of them ( all bought used for resale) and I really like them, in particular the first gen guns.

My spiel when selling is that "they do everything any self respecting gun does...except look cool."

Stupid reliable ( factory mags are strongly preferred) , reasonably accrate and, for me anyway, they are easy easy easy to shoot.

The biggest knock is the lack of double stack mags.

9mm carbines use their own mags, my understanding is the other calibers use the same mag as the hadguns in the same caliber.

I would expect the 380 version to behave the same

Interesting, everything I am finding says the mags for 40s and 45s interchange between handgun and carbine of same caliber. I havent seen anything on the 380s.

The original 9s I know dont.

If you were asking me, which you didn't, but if you were; I'd say, 9mm braced AR pistol or carbine. After that I'd go Ruger. Kel-Tec is cool, but the trigger is pretty awful. Hi-Point is not cool, but it does everything pretty well, except be cool. And you have to have their mags, which are single stack. And the trigger is pretty awful.

You are shooting this for range fun, right? Then you aren't going to be stocking expensive hollow points or other self defense ammo. You might have to get some fresh stuff, but with a 9mm you are going to be ahead after you shoot about one box.

I've tried most every PCC out there, except the Hi Point. Anyway, the one I kept is a Sig MPX, but it's a wallet drainer for sure, and the stock trigger is quite awful. After waiting forever for Gieselle to offer an "approved" trigger for the MPX, I went with a Timney, again a wallet drainer. I'm broke but happy

Well I'm hoping Ruger will come out with a 45ACP carbine. The PC9 looks pretty cool to me. I like the takedown feature.

You and I both. I was kind of surprised they released a .40 S&W, but it made sense because it was such an easy conversion from the 9mm.

So, since my gripes were triggered by bad triggers, and you picked a gun I don't know anything about...

How's the trigger on the Extar? What's the aftermarket like for triggers. Are they AR compatible? Is it straight blowback or delayed somehow?
