Long term knife storage

I have a bunch of knives and do not use them alot. I live in Cambodia where 1/3 of the year it is hot and dry and the rest is hot and wet. I want to store my keepers here until I return to the States next May. Then I want to store them in my house until I return permanently some time 2027.

I am thinking a nice coating of grease on the blades and in the joints and pack the couple of leather sheaths in plastic.

So what do you all think?

I scrub mine down with wax. It stays really well and when you use them the wax won't taint the meat plus they clean up very easily. You can clean the old wax off with alcohol, resharpen and recoat. The wax is real good at protecting edge from dulling due to corrosion. I also scrub the inside of the sheath with a mix of veggie oil and wax that has been melted together. Keeps moisture from creeping in.

If used properly, it's advertised to protect from corrosion for up to 5 years. And no cleanup required afterwards.

I have not used any of their products, so I can't vouch for them personally.

I wipe everything with the Sentry Solutions Marine Tuf Cloth and keep zerust capsules in the drawers and containers knives are stored in. If I were in your situation I'd store them in the anti corrosion bags JohnKSa has suggested after wiping with the Tuf Cloth (I might even toss a capsule in the bag). I would very carefully seal the bag.

Another vote for the vapor barrier makers, ZeRust is one but there are others. Small safe with a dry rod in it could also help for the long haul, that needs electricity though.

Many greases will discolor the scales. Renaissance Wax works good for long term. Or a light coating of Break-Free oil, working it into the joints, followed by wiping off the excess. And in a humid environment storage in the vapor barrier bags.
