Another "Off Brand" ;) Shows Up.

A newer Ruger revolver makes more sense to me than a newer S&W. Love S&W before they turned worse than Taurus.

All my revolvers built since the turn of the millennium have been Ruger.

Shooting ACP's through that has got to be like shooting a .22 LR. A very versatile revolver; you can go from .45 ACP plinking loads to full-on raging .454 Casull level .45 LC's.I recommend different grips for the latter, however.

Love my smallbore (.357) Redhawk!

That’s a fine looking six-shooter! Just needs some ivory or pearl grips. But those rosewood grips are great as well.

I wouldn't quite call Ruger an "off brand", I see the Rossi, Arminus, Armscor and their brethren more off-brandy-ish....but since you're a S&W guy at heart I can see what you mean ...

That Redhawk will last you, your children and then their kids at least three lifetimes of shooting fun, nice pick up!

I never thought I'd end up with a Redhawk, but here it is. In virtually new condition, with the box and papers with a 4" barrel, round butt, in 45 Colt/45 ACP it is one HEAVY hunk of stainless steel. Made in 2016 according to the Ruger website for such things.

I've had two of them. Some tips:

Neither of mine loved bullet weights below the typical 230-255 grain, 185 grainers would go to the right frequently.

Buy a Tyler T custom grip adapter, no one makes any sort of combat or roper or other type of grips beyond the standard panels, which I personally cannot wrap my hand around all that well. Hogue makes a great set for shooting but when its hard to engage the cylinder release without manipulating your firing hand. Making opening with one hand a bit of a pain.

Stick with Rugers brand of moonclips the others Ive used (ranch products) were not satisfactory.

DO NOT USE STEEL CASED AMMO

I believe this gun to be the most versatile handgun from the factory and it will serve you well, I moved on when I got my 625 smith but I may buy a ruger again.

Does this revolver use moon clips to shoot 45 ACP ammunition? It is very good looking, but it doesn't look like it has room for clips, unless it has two cylinders.

The cylinder is recessed to allow moon clips and fire .45 Colt on the same cylinder.

Sounds like a reason to go shopping for more S&Ws to sort of balance things out!

If I could find one of those I could sell my 625, Conver Blackhawk and my Pro Carry.

Curious as the warning on steel cased ammo?

It uses Ruger mfg moon clips. They are thinner than other moon clips. I have both and the full moon clips from other mfgs are too thick. I find the 45 LC is more accurate than the 45ACP in my revolver. I got it to shoot 45 magnum so 45 mag and 45 LC should be about the same. Have not had opportunity to try yet.

Steel cased ammo is a no go in revolvers as many others on here can attest. Tula .357 and .38 SPL will not extract easily from three different revolvers of mine at the time. With this revolver if one doesn't reload the temptation to use cheap .45 ACP steel cased is there and even with Moon clips they are still a pain to extract, someone correct me but I believe the steel case expands to fill the charging hole so much more than brass that they have a tendency to stick more.
