Resisting the temptation that is CZ... Omega "Convertible?"

I've been patronizing this one shop for the past year, and usually when I go there I have a specific product in mind. Sometimes, however, I just go to "look" (we all know how that turns out, LOL), starting with the used case, migrating toward the new SIGs and 1911's and wheel guns, but always end up gravitating toward the CZ section for some reason.

Due to some shuffling and trading recently, all my handguns at the moment are .45acp. Last time I was in the shop I checked out a CZ 97 BD; really nice, but didn't want to spend the coin on a new one.

Now, my only real carry gun is a SIG P220 Compact, and am thinking about something maybe a little lighter that allows me to carry up to the state-mandated maximum 10+1 rounds instead of just 6+1, so that means 9mm. I had fondled the CZ 75 compact and the P01 BD and Omega a few times, and am just impressed by the way they melt into my hand. What great feeling little guns. Once again, each time I was there for something else specifically and didn't want to shell out extra for an additional pistol purchase. But they really did look and feel impressive, and I was more impressed by the trigger feel on the Omega. I've decided that my next gun will be a CZ.

So, questions for you CZ guys... What exactly, and how useful, is the Omega "Convertible" feature? How well do these shoot compared to the non-Omega models? And of course, how well does it carry IWB?

I do not have an Omega, except for my PO-7. I really like the original P01 and prefer the original with decocker only. If you want to be able to convert between safety and decocker then get the Omega.

I think it's very unlikely that many people go back and forth more than once. It's just nice that the same exact gun can either be a decocker or a safety model, as the user prefers. But I don't think people are switching back and forth depending on whether "today feels like a decocker kind of day."

My further understanding is that there are some other differences in the Omega trigger design that creates a particular feel that some people like.

My P-07 had the safety installed when I got it. I tried it for a little while before converting it to decocker. There is a 99.999% chance that the safety will never be reinstalled.

The Omegas have a better trigger then the traditional CZ trigger. With that said, the traditional triggers once modified are one of the best triggers out there. Omega triggers, at this point don't have the support from say Cajun or CZ Custom. Also, on the Omega the way the decocker switch rotates is different, Omega rotates towards the muzzle, traditional towards the rear.

My new carry piece is a PCR.

I have an Omega, and have only used the decocker. The trigger is very nice.. I have only carried it owb, never tried iwb.

I converted the decocker on my P07 to the thumb safety mode because I prefer to carry it cocked and locked. I would love it if I could do the same thing with my P01 but it was made before the Omega Convertible system was introduced.

Your LGS has a CZ section? Count yourself lucky.

I wouldn't be interested in customization on a carry gun, just my preference. That said I like the trigger better on the Omega and would be inclined to go that route if keeping everything stock.

It's quite small and has maybe a half-dozen guns, right next to the CZ-owned Dan Wesson section.

From my experience with my P07? Not useful.

The safety was too flat and small to reliably be used (for me ) cocked and locked, so I put the decocker back on and just left it DA/SA

Compared to my local stores that's massive!

I'll see maybe a P07 and a 75 or some sort, maybe a used one too. And no Dan Wessons.

All my local stores are Kimber, RIA, taurus and maybe a Sig 1911

Those P01s are so sexy to my eye. I guess I need to get one.

I have only one CZ, a first gen 75b Omega. Not sure if the trigger is not right on mine but the SA is a smooth rolling press with zero wall. The owner of Cajun milled the hammer a bit for free because it was dropping to half cock once in a great while. It works fine now but doesn't have a half cock anymore. Not sure it matters.

I will say that taking the Omega apart and getting it back together seemed much more straightforward than the standard 75 trigger I've seen videos of.

So far I'm not hugely impressed with the platform. It feels good but recoils noticeably harder than other service pistols and shoots higher than I like. That's a sight swap fix so not a big deal.

Trigger is very strange but lots of people like it when I have had them shoot it.

Eventually I'll get CGW to do their magic on it. When I find some money in the couch.

How easy is the safety to manipulate on the Omegas?

I had a P07 and the safety was too hard to flip down and never "broke in". I couldn't get comfortable with hitting it juuust right. I swapped the decocker in and flipped it for a P01 right before they announced the Omega P01's. If they safety works just like the traditional safety on my Fullsize 75BSA I'd look at getting one and keeping it with the safety on.

One interesting if not entirely useful omega feature is that you can "field strip" half the fire control group without tools.
