How many people here have bought a duplicate rifle/handgun

Only a couple of duplicates here, I have two 91/30's and am looking around for a good deal on a third. If I find what I want at a decent price, I will be going back down to one as I would give the other two to my brothers.

I also have two Savage 62F's from Walmart, I generally keep two on hand - one as a personal plinker, the other for use as a gift when the occasion arises. I may pick up a couple more before the price goes up, at $99 they are a real bargain, IMO.

I have also purchased a few other duplicates or near duplicates, but my youngest daughter appropriated one of each (Star BM, Taurus TCP, H&R 922/622 etc.).

I have a few AR's, but none of them are configured exactly the same. The rest of my accumulation is pretty diverse, not much duplication at all.

I bought a pre-69 (no serial) Marlin 99M1 in 2014, complete with its rear sight still in place (these tend to be missing, and are quite rare.) This rifle appears unrestored and in very good condition.

The following year, I found another, somewhat newer one at the same store. This second one does have a serial number, but no rear sight; it had been removed and a scope affixed instead. The stock looks nicely-refinished and there is a sling on it as well. I bought that one, too.

I had forgotten about mine... I have, basically, the same thing. I bought a pre-69 complete, and a newer one (not sure of production date) complete. I had intended on kitbashing them and making one good rifle, and one project rifle... but they have been setting in the safe for about 10 years, once I realized there were some specific version differences.

Several ARs, but all set up entirely too dissimilar to be considered duplicates. I don’t have any true duplicates in my collection. I like variety.

Here is a "double-double" a pair of doubles. Four all but identical rifles I had built for benchrest competitions with identical actions (even consecutive serial numbers) barrels with identical chambers cut with same reamer, same B&Andy triggers with same setting and stocks hand-finished to identical dimensions and identical 45X Leupold scopes in matching rings. Ammo for each is identical and interchangeable BAT1.JPG . The difference between one pair and the other is the rifles in one pair weight 10-1/2 lbs and the other pair 13-1/2 lbs, for competition in the Light Varmint and Heavy Varmint categories respectively. The purpose of doubling the rifles, of course, is to have an immediate and identical fall-back rifle in case one fails or goes sour during course of competition..During my years of competitive shooting, one thing I've learned for sure: is that if equipment breaks down it will happen at the worst possible moment. So it's smart to plan and invest in an extra layer of insurance.

I have 4 Ruger 10/22s, but they are all configured differently, so that doesn't really count. I have two J.C. Higgins Model 50s, both in 30-06. I bought them back in the 80's when they were so cheap that I couldn't pass them up.

OTOH, I'd always wanted a Savage 24 in 22 Magnum / 20 ga. Finally found one, a fixer-upper for a good price. Cleaned it up, removed the rust, found missing parts, refinished metal and wood and was happy with it. Finally my dream had come true!

Shortly thereafter I moved and did a full inventory. I found not one, but two other 22 Mag/20 ga 24s that I had bought 16 and 8 years prior.:eek:

First world problems.

So you fix up one up then find two more you forgot you had! Now that's my kind of inventory keeping!

The closest I ever got to that kind of discovery was finding the empty boxes to guns I had sold many years before!

Let me start by saying I inherited most of my collection. But I can add a bunch to this thread lol

I have two Taurus PT-22s, one blue, brass, and rosewood; the other nickel, black and walnut.

I had two walther P22s, one with the compensator. One was stolen.

I have 3 Winchester 1897s. Two 12ga and one 16ga.

I have 3 Winchester Model 12s. Two 12ga and a 20ga.

I have 4 Remington 870s, 2 twelves, a 20, and a 410. Twelves are Wingmasters, others are Express. Had two of the 410s, sold one.

I have 3 Remington 700s. A .243 BDL, a .223 Fancy BDL, and a .308 sps in an AICS chassis.

I have 3 Winchester model 70s. A varmint .243, a light weight .243, and a .270 WSM Coyote.

I have a few Ruger M77s and M77 MkIIs. 6mm rem, 220 swift, 257 Bob, .204 Ruger.

I have a Marlin 17vs and a Marlin 25C that are both the same design.

I have 8 Colt pistols that are all family. Two .22 Diamondbacks, .357 Python, 1917 Army 45, New Service 38-40, Shooting Master .38 spl, .22 Officers Target, and a Model 1892 in 32 WCF.

I have 4 Colt Woodsmen. A first model 6" pencil barrel, a second model, and two third models; a sport 4" and a 6.5" Match Target, both with tenite grips.

I have a sportsterized Gewher 98 and an M48 Yugo Mauser

I have 4 Ruger single sixes. An old model, a new model, a 50th anniversary short barrel, and a 32mag Bisley model.

I've got a few 1911s, one is a Colt 38 Super, then a Springfield 45 DU banquet, and a Para C7.45LDA. Also a 380 colt govt model that's sort of a 1911.

Do contender barrels count? 22lr, 22 hornet, 221, 222, 223, 30-30, 30 and 357 Herrett, and 44Mag Hotshot

I have two Savage target bolt action pistols. One a 22mag and one a 22-250.

I have two Ruger MkII pistols, both 5"? barrels, one standard and one bull.

I've got a couple 10/22s, and 3 AR uppers: 5.56, 6.5G, and 50B

I'd LOVE to find a Stevens/Savage 24 type gun with 22 mag, or hornet!, over 20ga to go with my Stevens tenite 22-410.

Then just random bolt, pump, single, and lever action 22s that I have a couple similar of.

Man, I never realized I had so many "duplicates"!

At various times since '07:
Had two Spanish FR8s, two Romy M69 .22 Trainers, two Yugo M59 SKS (the 59 is Not a 59/66), two Mosin 44s, 3-5 Enfields, 3-4 Makarovs (EG, Bulgy, .380 Russian), two Polish P-83s (9x18), two Garands.

Now, a near-mint Sig P228, a spare, post-mint P228, almost identical P6, four imported AKs and three Enfields plus the same pair of Romy M69 .22s. Other solo acts also passed their auditions, but this is only about duplicates (+).

In '07 when I told my wife that I wanted a second Mosin M44, her suddenly blank, partly baffled gaze made me think that she had been injected, to prepare for a colonoscopy. Not kidding one bit.

Used to have 2 AR's recently sold one as it got no use. Personally, I don't have the space for duplicates.

I have two pairs of matching handguns,,,
Both are .22 target style pistols.

Matching Beretta U-22 NEOS pistols and a third permanently in carbine configuration.

It's nice to have two identical guns for when I take guests/newbies to the range

Almost but not duplicates is this pair of JIm Clark Long Slide 1911's. The difference is one is a .45 and the other a .38. DSC_0040.JPG

I have two R55 Benchmark rifles, and three suppressors of the same make and model for those rifles and others.

My P365 is my primary carry gun, and I have two, one as a back up. I also have a 2.0 Shield and a 2.0 Shield with a 4 inch barrel, not exactly duplicates but close.

I own several guns but each one fills a need that none of the others can. If I were to buy a "duplicate", it would be a different brand or model that better fulfills a specific need and its predecessor would be a trade in on the new one.

You know that with this post you are encouraging very expensive and addictive habits. I recently found a revolver that I already have but in a differenent caliber for sale. I've been using all the will-power that I can muster to resist the urge to buy this "duplicate." My strongest argument for not buying it was that there was something wrong with me for wanting another revolver just like the one I have but in a different caliber. I had convinced myself that this urge on my part was "abnormal," a fetish and something of which to be ashamed. And now... well, you have shown me that other people have this same condition which means it's not really as bad as I thought. Keep up the good work!!!! I'm off to buy a "duplicate."

Marlin 39A. Bought the first in 1981 new. Bought second in 2005 mfg. 1950. Wow what a difference in quality. They used to make them stout. Most of my son's and my rifles are duplicates.

Back when I was with the SO I had a duplicate .357 because, well, it was important to have 'just in case'

I have a bunch of duplicates and near duplicates.

2 Dan Wesson 15-2's
1 Dan Wesson 715.
2 Jericho 941's
3 Tanfoglio T/A 90's fullsized
2 Tanfoglio BTA90 compacts.
3 Taurus PT111 G2's
2 S&W 28-2's
