I am finally going to try lead/coated bullets in 38spl/357mag and 44mag, but not sure which company to go with? Acme beats MBC by a couple of dollars which I don't mind paying a little more if its a superior product. I have done google searches on both companies and both seem to have mixed reviews. I am mostly interested in DEWC and SWC in both calibers. Maybe using lead/lube in 44mag rifle for a SWC hunting round.

Haven't used Acme so I can't make a bias opinion. The MBC SWC in the softer 12 bhn is what I use in for my 357 Mag and 45 acp. Unless your going to push them to the max stay away from the harder bullets.

I've only used MBC for 45 Colt. Happy enough with them. Need to order some more now that I think about it.
I'll echo staying away from harder bullets.

Just looking for plinking loads, nothing hot. I can hit anything as it is let alone with cannon velocities. :(

I'm glad I asked these questions because I didn't even notice they are two different hardness.

They are both great quality. Search the web for a discount for Acme...
Go with whatever is your best deal, shipped, including discounts.

I have used both with excellent results. Acme is local to me so I use them for almost everything.

Been using MBC for years, never tried Acme but would just for the cool boxes. I have no need to order any bullets for some time.:)

Always wanted their bullet board but not sure if the sell that anymore??

I like that MBC states their hardness and gives me choices. I have been fine with ACME also though so it is pretty much a coin toss, I think either will do you well.

Look to see if one has a different bullet you would like to try, sample pack, etc as that may make your decision easier.

For 9mm, I am considering ordering from Acme. Their website shows a new profile for their coated 115 grain bullets. The shape is more similar to a FMJ now which might allow a little longer OAL to pass the plunk test.

I like acme does 100 bullets cheaper and cheaper shipping but now the hardness is pushing me to MBC.

16 or 18 don’t remember but I have never had any leading with acme their coating is very good

I have used and been happy with both.
MBC does offer THR members a 5% discount and has some of it's bullets in two hardness levels BHN12 and BHN18.

Not shooting coated any more but from past tests I would have to be having a good day (great day maybe) to shoot the difference between good loads using bullets from either company.

I've tried and liked them both. My only complaint about Acme was that they did not email me back when I emailed them a few years ago. I've never emailed MBC.

Acme.

Just because:

- They're local and I like supporting local business. I just wish they had a small storefront I could walk into.

- I like the cool wood box they come in.

MBC is also an excellent choice. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them either.

20000+ HiTek coated bullets shot from my pistols and AR9 in the last 5 years. Ive shot both MBC and Acme. The only fault I can find with the MBCs is that the coating isnt quite as uniform and smooth as the Acme's.
I buy from Acme pretty much exclusively now because they are in my home state of WI, and with the 10% discount code, the price is right.
Buy whatever you like, both are good.

I've used multiple shipments of both & really found no difference.

I voted ACME on color alone!
I think the red peeking out from a revolver is just the cat's pajamas. ;)

You do realize the shipping from the MBC includes insurance, right?

I !like their bullets and they are good to deal with. They also offer a 10% discount for THR members.

Like saud, you will be happy with either product, both are high quality. Both have identical prices for 500 .358" grooveless 158gr SWC coated bullets. ($43)

If you haven't considered, especially for BHN, check out Brazos Bullet Company started by a match shooter as they sell lubed lead and Hi-Tek coated bullets at very good prices - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ponents-on-sale.707473/page-178#post-11156312

Since many of my loads are lighter target loads, I like 12/18 BHN of MBC bullets (Lubed lead and Hi-Tek coated) and 14-16 BHN of Z-Cast bullets (Lubed lead only .38 Spl 158 gr RNFP $31/500) over other harder cast bullets. Brazos advertises 13 BHN for their bullets and I am thinking about trying some of their bullets.

Their weight variance of 100 Hi-Tek coated 9mm 125 gr RN produced 87 bullets within 1.0 grain and rest within 2.0 grains, which is pretty good for coated lead bullets (as many lead bullets can vary by a few grains) - http://www.brazosprecision.com/Bullet-Weight-Variation-of-Brazos-Bullets_b_4.html

With code: HIGHROAD1901 until 6/30/19 you'll get 10% off Hi Tek coated bullets or wax lubed bullets. Free shipping on 60 lbs or more.

.38 Spl/.357 Mag bullets - http://www.brazosprecision.com/38-Special357-Magnum_c_13.html

.44 Mag bullets - http://www.brazosprecision.com/44-Magnum_c_21.html

Yeah, Brazos is on my short list as well. Pretty nice people. I think Im going to pick up 500 or so 147s for 9mm at some point just for a test run.

I'm the exact opposite. I have never tried powder coated bullets because I refuse to shoot bullets that look like tubes of lipstick. ;)
However, Acme does sell just lubed cast bullets as well.

I have used Missouri Bullets before I started casting and was very happy with their product.
