hickok45 cuts ties with the NRA

hickok45 announced on his channel today that he "can no longer take support from the NRA or continue to use our brand to ask people to join."

With over 4.2 million subscribers and over 1.1 billion total video views, hickok45 jumping ship is another issue on the small mountain of issues the NRA is currently dealing with.

A better move would have been to quit plugging them and just keep his mouth shut about it. He will make the NRA nay-sayers happy but he's going to or has alienated a bunch of NRA supporters. Sometimes silence is golden and there is a saying about not biting the hand that feeds you.

I never watched him much. He was chatty and is a very good shot but I didn't find a lot of substance to his videos. He probably won't miss my non- views.
 
Hickcock45 should do what he does best and that is review, shoot and hit the gong. Hopefully his channel will not turn into a soap opera like those two buffoons that love to do torture test of old firearm and dress like every day is Halloween, or they got their clothes from the nearest Goodwill store.
As far as his son goes, he is doing nothing but piggy backing off the old man. He might think about his future after his Dad is gone and leave the NRA soap out of it.

Well as you said you dont watch him so you wouldnt know how adamant he always is about the NRA at the beginning of all his videos. If he just all of the sudden stopped doing that with not addressing it there would be all kinds of rumors and hearsay about it.

Better to be upfront on your stance and why.

I dont think he's alienating his viewers that are NRA members, as he states in the vid I posted, he's still a benefactor and they are rooting for them and hope they get the house in order.

This whole controversy is not for or against the NRA itself. The people cutting ties or discontinuing contributions are showing "tough love" to get the NRA to reform. There seems to be widespread agreement that Wayne LaPierre and his cronies have got to go. There's no way to get them to do that unless drastic measures are taken. WLP has stacked the deck otherwise. He's like a cancer that cannot be excised without radical surgery. He's had too many years in which to burrow too deep into the organization.
 
  • I will still support the NRA along with the GOA and SAF and anyone else that will assist in the fight for my RKBA. Period.

Maybe you should take a few minutes and watch the video. It's apparent you haven't.
 
This is just my opinion, but fragmenting the NRA is exactly what the antis want. The organization, like any organization, is going through a rough patch. But abandoning ship and gutting the power of the organization is in the best interest of our enemies.

There may be some truth to that, but consider also that he does all the videography, editing, and post-production work. He's been doing it for more than 10 years and has a substantial amount of experience accumulated with that. We can see the production quality of the videos and the camera and audio equipment used has improved immensely over the years. While the popularity of the channel has funded that, it's taken John's work and dedication to it to see it through. The truth to what you're saying is that John doesn't have the on-screen persona or shooting skills that Greg does. The channels would not be likely to maintain their popularity with only him on the screen. But that doesn't mean he's just enjoying a free-ride. If you've ever attempted anything like making one of these videos so they don't just look and sound like crap, you would know the skill, understanding, and aptitude it takes to produce them. I don't see any reason John couldn't continue producing quality media in the future. He'll just need a different actor in front of the camera some day and unlike Greg's limited forte, it doesn't even have to be about guns and plinking.
 
i watch firearms videos to get knowledgeable feedback about, and to learn how to fieldstrip, a piece. gong ringing, aw shucks witticisms, antics, talking heads with political opinions, rooting from the sidelines and under-employed second-generation hangers-on of the “star of the show” don’t interest me as much. unsubscribed.
