Gun cleaner...

I occasionally use non chlorinated brake cleaner. As mentioned above be sure to completely relube after cleaning. Non chlorinated should be safe for polymer.

Any problem using spray brake cleaner for firearms, aside from caution on plastics?
No, but plastics aside be careful around any stock finishes including handgun grips.

Without thinking I had one of my 45 guns stripped for cleaning and forgot to remove the grip panels.

About as quick as I squirted the stuff I got a sinking feeling as I knew what I had just done. I replaced the grips but someday I need to clean up and restore the above original grips.

Yes, you want to clean, not degrease. If you use brakeclean, you need to re-lube afterwards. Better to just use an appropriate CLP-ish oil in the first place.

I use it on shotgun barrels - it really helps get rid of any plastic buildup - the REAL concern is if you get some in your eyes - it can cause immediate issues up to blindness so wear eye protection and do it outdoors to avoid breathing in the nasty chemicals.

Nope other way around. Chlorinated is TCE and not flammable. Non Chlorinated contains acetone and will eat plastic,

Brownells sells TCE by the gal as a degreasing agent. Electra Kleen is also TCE.

There are spray Gun Scrubber for polymer guns that work well and do not cost much more than Brake Kleen

I use the chlorinated only on metal outside with eye protection as a final clean of the barrel and actions then as you say relube as needed.

This stuff is good and only requires a quick spritz. save the over spray in a plastic container and rinse small parts. But it is flammable.

I used the stuff to clean 60 year cosmoline from a Victory Revolver. I wore neoprene gloves but the glove tore on the hand holding the part. Brake cleaner gave me a chemical burn that peeled skin for about a year. I don't recommend the stuff. Use something less toxic.

There are a couple of MSDS's from the same manufacturer on brake cleaners. Neither are all that good for you

I use brake cleaner on guns with caution and care. Been doing it for at least 20 years. Never caused any harm.

Why use brake cleaner at all? You're cleaning a gun. Lots of products out there specifically for that.
Yep. I like the Slip 2000 or M-Pro 7 gun cleaners, they will strip any oil and dirt and leave parts squeaky clean.

I like the Chemtool for spraying brushes and cleaning rods. Always do it outside. Much cleaner than brake cleaner.

Except most companies take the same product, relabel it for gun use and triple the price.

Brake cleaner will take everything off, so make sure to reapply some oil or grease as necessary

That's probably worth a try. Since I don't clean my guns every time I turn around (Mostly just wipe them down with a Rig Rag, add a little oil here and there), the cost of a can of stuff like this isn't a big part of the decision.

Shooters choice makes a polymer safe cleaner I use it & really like it. Shooter's Choice Polymer Safe Quick Scrub Aerosol Can, 12 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000U43CX8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lMWdDbT9ZGV34

Gee I thought I mentioned that?
