2019 June-July Semi-auto Battle Rifle 10 Shot Challenge

M1A standard with synthetic stock got it two years ago still stock from out of the box. Probably about 300 rounds through it so far. Have tried 5 or 6 different ammo brands or types hasn't failed so far. I generally use Hirtenberger surplus in it so that is what I'm using for it's entry. The synthetic stock has less weight than a wood but recoil is a little more noticeable. I took one attempt at standing and one at the rested.

Got my targets... dang that bullseye isn't very big! I was hoping for something the size of a large pizza. :D

I doubt I will even be able to see the bull at 100. I can barely get a sharp look at 25.

This is going to be... interesting.

Different people have their different techniques but I always found it best to use a 6 o' clock hold on the black so it is like a bead on the top of the sight. The black part of the target is 6 1/4 inches in diameter.

Yeah, trouble is for me the entire paper is going to be a blob. I need to update my prescription ASAP.

I did that three months ago and it helped. It wasn't so bad before for outdoor rifle but it did help after some. But I really noticed a difference for indoor handgun shooting. Another thing is outdoor at 100 yards, I have noticed that time of day and amount of sunlight makes a difference for me. There have been times that with same rifle, same ammo, same distance, same basic wind, same sight setting, same range, same rested position but different time of day or sunlight my groups changed.

I have more entries coming but waiting for others to post, don't want to make this the lionking at 100 yds thread.

I'm wishing now I had adjusted the sight more on the SVT with another trip to the range before entering the target, just a little more tapping the front sight and most hits would have been in the black but it is what it is. The rifle does have the capability of being pretty accurate compared to other battle rifles.

I'm probably going to be late on entries as I'm busy or out of town for the next two weekends. But I'm not going to be competitive regardless so I'll just submit them late
 
just a note.....don't expect any changes at this point.....normally high power rifle competition does not allow use of the sling for standing offhand shooting.

By the way my submissions will be targets I did over the last 2 to 3 months I had planned this challenge for a while and did my targets before it got too hot outside it has been 95 degrees for over two weeks now so I did my targets knowing when summer hit I wouldn't want to endure the Florida heat. My last targets I did last Sunday.

If anyone feels this is inappropriate I'll disqualify myself from being able to win and just submit targets for information sake.

Not a problem as far as I’m concerned. I have access to a 100 yard indoor range. :)
 
@lionking, can we shoot suppressed? I only have one rifle that qualifies and it's an AR308. It's going to be easy to put 10 shots in the 10 ring prone off a bipod, but 10 in the X-ring might be tough. I need to shoot the POF more so this will be fun. Time to put some loads together. BTW, the X-ring measures 1.278" when I printed the target. Does that sound right to you?

I don't see why suppressed would matter unless there is something I don't know about it. I don't have electronic calibers but using a tape measure it looks like 1 1/4 x ring across on a store bought target.
Just enter the correct catagory optics or iron sights.

A note: a bipod is a rest. Regardless of whether the shooter is sitting at a table or lying on a shooting mat, shooting off a bipod is shooting off a rest.

Yes, it's clearly stated in the first post so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Obviously I would be submitting targets for Class 4 based on my previous post. Perhaps there should be a class for sling, shooting jacket and glove for those service rifle shooters who get a significant advantage over anyone shooting offhand, seated or prone without them.

Class 4, 10 shots at 100 yds, optics or dot sights only, benched with front rest or sand bag, bi-pod or prone position which ever way you shoot best (no rear rests allowed rifle must be shouldered)

FAL DSA 58. I only have experience shooting one FAL, and I do like it BUT there are things about it I don't like compared to other battle rifles. First off the trigger is rather heavy at least on mine which I really realized doing it standing I suppose that can be fixed.. Secondly it is finicky with ammo. Certain ammo like surplus South African and Hirtenberger jams in the rifle. Yes I know you can adjust the gas but every other rifle I have tried, AR-10, M1A or H&K 91 eats up all ammo with out having to adjust anything. Also the mag release is rather small to use.

I'm showing two targets for the rested class just to show group results with run of the mill Privi 145 gr that is cheaper to shoot and my entry using Federal SP 150gr which it tends to group a little better with but the Prvi isn't far behind.

Not very good, only took one try, I found the moderate heavy trigger difficult and the shape of the pistol grip not that I do great standing with any battle rifles lol.

By the way just to say my photos of the FAL are old taken a few years ago, the rear bag holding it up was for photoing only , I shouldered did not use a rear rest and the actual targets were done a couple months ago. lol
 
Got out to shoot despite the heat and humidity.
Shot benched class 3, prone class 3 and offhand class 1. Shooting jacket for offhand almost killed me with the heat.

Class 3 Benched 92. (Prone was 85)

Rifle was 1955 HRA M1 Garand from CMP
Got it when they had the Greek returns. Barrel guaged as new and as far as my research goes it is correct.

Offhand could have been an 85
Had one hit jut off the paper. Would have been a 6 on a full sized target...oh well.
 
good job ford8nr, this challenge has showed me that I REALLY need to work on standing . I have more entries coming but for now I will say standing I found my M1A with synthetic stock to be the easiest followed by my Ruger SR762, which I'll post those results, actually braved the 95 degree heat and humidity (and horse flies) two weeks ago to do the Ruger and a Garand.
