Preferred 1911 grips?

It is wonderful that we have a wide variety of choice of grips. I enjoy seeing the different designs and materials.

Also, folks have an opportunity to personalize their firearm with their choice of grips.

As I said before, I like Pachmayr grips on my M1911's for shooting. It is more function over form for me. M1911's with rubber grips just do not move in my hand under recoil which I like.

But for folks that like grips of other materials, that is great. I wish I could have fancy looking grips and shoot them well.

The Hogue and Pachmayr finger groove grips give a lot more contact area with my fingers and kind of hook around my fingers giving much better control with a lighter grip. They are the only grips I would consider for a 1911... BUT I have very long fingers, I can see how they would not work well for many people.

I have both the Hogue and Pachmayr 1911 grips... I can really tell NO difference between the two... both do a great job. I also have them on my Desert Eagle L5 and Beretta 92 INOX. All my friends hate the Hogue grips on my Beretta 92 because they can't hold on to it, the grip is just too big for them... they work GREAT for me though!

I prefer the more aggressive grips like on the top 2 pistols above, which I believe are micarta. They are like gripping a porcupine when they come out of the box, but you can tame them down with emory cloth to your comfort level.

Plain old checkered wood or plastic is fine with me. Prefer wood though.

My Colt Commander came w rosewood checkered. Gave them to an old marine at work. Think my gun was a week old when it got Hogue slabs put on it. Also wears a Pachmayr arched MS housing

Can't stand rubber on a semiauto.

VZ grips grip you back! Perfect for a serious pistol.

Another vote for VZ
they're available in varying levels of "grippiness" (based on cut pattern), from nearly smooth all the way up to "just short of vicious".

Personally I've been using a set of their double diamonds for just short of a decade now. thinking of trying a set of Gunners for my USPSA gun in the near future.
