mini shot shell feeding?

Size of the shell has nothing to do with the ability of the payload. If it is moving birdshot or buckshot at 1200 or faster, it will do the same damage as a 2-3/4" shell with the same payload and velocity.
I think that we all know that a 1 3/4” mini shoot she’ll will not have the same payload as a 2 3/4” shot shell. And a 410 will not be able to push the same payload as a mini shoot shell at the same velocity.
I’ve shot the mini shoot shells, buck and slugs, in my Tac-14. Both had mild recoil, but still tore up the stump I was shooting. The buckshot pattered great at 10 yards. I also shot 2 3/4” buckshot, reduces recoil and standard loads. They both did great but were harder to handle and not easy to shoot fast.
With the mini shells the gun holds more rounds and can be shot faster with better handling.
Given all that data tell me which you want to be shot by.
It’s not about what we would want to be shot with. Kind of a silly question, because who wants to be shot.o_O
Mini shells are great for close range and for home defense.
They work great in most pumps, but I’ve never seen them work in a auto.

That's the point. You can play apples and oranges all day. Who or what you use either on is not going like it. The options for using the mini in a shotgun was mod the gun. The option on the judge is 45lc or 410. Seems simple enough given noone and nothing will like being the recipient.

Why would you say that? I reload a 2-3/4" 12 gauge with 3/4oz of 8.5s; there are factory loadings in 7/8oz; again, it's the payload and velocity (if gun weight is the same) that will determine recoil; not the length of the shell.

But this topic is not about recoil. It’s about the mini shot shell. The OP was wondering if they would work in a Mossberg 930.
The discussion did drift a little over to shot shells that would work. It’s pretty common knowledge that the lighter the payload kick less. But those of us that shoot the shorter shells know that the payload is lighter then the 2 3/4” shells will buckshot and slugs.

I would still prefer a 12 gage with mini shells over a Judge, because I’ll have more rounds and throw more lead per shot.
Now I never said that a Judge loaded with a self defense load wasn’t any good. I would just prefer the12 gage. In fact, l have my Tac-14 next to my bed loaded with buckshot mini shot shells.

And as long as you are confident in it feeding reliably, then go for it; I do not trust them for that so my Mossberg 500 has the standard 2-3/4" 00 buck in the tube and side saddle

And you have more shots per tube with a mini shotshell. It basically turns into a 9mm vs 45 debate with capacity. Personally it wouldn't be for me. I have an 8 shot tube on my Mav 88. I plan to add 4 or 6 rounds of shell holders on the shotgun itself, either a side saddle or speedfeed stock. Using minis for a *maybe* recoil reduction and an increase in tube capacity doesn't make much sense to me.

I favor these mini-shot shells for my short-chambered antique shotguns that are safe for smokeless powder. My Geha likes them just fine, for example. This solves the problem of making 2-1/2", 2-9/16" and 2-5/8" loads - and keeping them separate.

I confirmed today that the Aguila minishells run 100% in my Kel-Tec KS7 (after its trip back to the mothership after my first disastrous range session). The magazine of the KS7 holds 11 of them and recoil is very manageable.

My shoulder is pretty sore right now from also shooting full power 2.75" buckshot loads as well. The difference between recoil is quite substantial. Yes, the minishells throw a smaller payload, but recoil management, recovery between shots, and number of shells in the tube make up for it.

Do the Brits still make any of the short 2" to 2 5/8" shotshells that they used to use in light double guns?

Yes, but in birdshot. Check websites of: Gamebore, Eley, Lyavale, Hull Cartridge. I have seen 2" Gamebore "Pygmie" shells offered for sale in USA. Largest selection of specialty shells can be found on RST of Pa USA site.

When I was looking at maybe getting a Shockwave, I was very interested in the mini shells to make the gun more manageable to shoot. Having decided to go the opposite direction with a 7lb gun with a 20" barrel and 8 round tube, I think I may revisit the idea. The heavy gun would make shooting the minis feel like a pop gun. For HD and personal defense at the cabin, I am certainly more worried about issues with people rather than big animals. I've never experimented with them, but for as cheap as the adapter is, why not?

The issue is the minishells. I've deleted some irrelevancy.

The 2&1/4" BK will be great companion for new KS7. This is due to light recoil and light weight.

I'm not sure about the 930, but my 1897 will hold 9 or 10 of the little buggers. Cycle fine as long as you don't try to go "full auto", i.e.: slam-fire (I had to try it once!). Still, no jams when racked normally, even on quick follow-up shots. I actually used about 50 of the Aquila 7.5 shot cartridges for thinning the grackle/starling population around my fruit trees and garden. Very little noise, sort of a hollow "pop". Zero recoil. Killed fine once I figured out how they shot from the old girl. They aren't much good past about 30 yards, even in the old Winchester's full choke. But, setting under a peach tree and shooting them coming in at about 15 - 20 yards they worked a treat, and the barn cats appreciated the free meal.

Just out of curiosity, is a mini shell a little bit quieter than a a full size(2 3/4) shot shell. Not talking about self defense. Talking about 8s, 7 1/2s, 6s, 4s, etc. If they even make minis with those shot sizes. Have a 12g double coach gun that would be fun for pest control. I have been considering inserts but minis might serve the purpose. Don't really need all the thunder of even a less recoil twelve to dispatch a feral or egg stealer.

With my 870 tactical, if the first shell was 2 3/4", the mini would cycle fine. Last one would flip around for some reason. So if the last was a normal load. it would be 100 percent reliable. Think i could fit 11 shells in the tube (1 at 2 3/4" and the rest mini's)

Honestly, they aren't much louder than a 22. Maybe around 22 WMR levels. Unfortunately, they only come in #7.5 shot, buckshot, and slugs as far as I know. The other shot sizes aren't available as far as I'm aware. They work well enough on fruit-stealing birds, but I'd not want to try them on anything larger. For egg stealing varmints, ferals, and other miscellaneous things that go bump in the night, I would suggest leaving the (assumed) open-choked coach gun on the rack using either a .22 or a full-choked gun and full power loads. I just don't think I'd trust the #7.5 shot for anything larger than blackbirds; perhaps the buckshot would be ok for the larger critters. You might buy a box of each, pattern them at the distance you think you'd use them, and then make a decision based on that information. For what I was doing they worked just fine, but as always, YMMV and all that jazz...

Mini shells = Current Fad. Don't see any use or need for them. Unless you are recoil sensitive.

How many topics have come up over the years about home defense ammo? How many people were looking for ammo that didn’t shoot through several walls in there house.
The mini shells are not as powerful as 2 3/4” shells and are better suited for home defense.
You say current fad, but they have been on the market for years.
Federal is also putting out a mini shot shell that they call the Shorty.

Thanks Mac. Actually, it has chokes tubes. I've been using a full choke .410 for years for pest control. All a matter of logistics. Pests don't pay attention to the holes in the barn.

The true purpose of shorter shells is use in upland guns when black bear, coyote, hog ,....become a threat during small game hunt. Loose ten pack in pocket does not weigh much and recoil is manageable in light game guns.

I don't know about that. If I were in that situation I'd probably just carry some 2 3/4" buckshot.
