John Ross not delivering paid for JR500

If I were Mr. Ross, I would not be happy that the CB thread was closed. There have been plenty of prospective customers who have read these threads and not chimed in. That thread being closed only leaves the conflict public, his opportunity to make the customer happy is now kept from that forum. If the gun comes tomorrow with a personal note and is more than what the customer could have expected, it won't be on CB, but the public airing of the distress caused by his poor customer service is there for everyone to see and likely giving pause to prospective clients. I mean that is what I would try to make happen, if the business in question were mine.

^agree with this.
while the product may be enjoyable the poor communication would steer me away. If I were the builder, I would want the last word that it shipped and ask forgiveness for the delay

Was the CB thread locked or actually deleted? If only locked then a mod might reopen it to post a satisfactory conclusion.

As what point does a small claims suit or a call to the Attorney General become the best option?

CB thread was closed by mod. It is still there to read. Yes it should not have been closed.
As to the 2nd set of questions; after having every form of communication possible short of driving 1500 miles to his house over 1.5-2 months ignored. He said he got a letter from AG. Bet it was about this.
It could all be cleared up asap with the overnight shipping i paid for. Maybe he tried to save money and shipped it by pony express.

I wonder how many views this thread has had. Other forums keep tabs on that and list it. It would be interesting to know. Especially if JR saw that number.

Yep. I hope this thread doesn't get shut down like it did over at CB.

He signed for a certified letter on 6/22/19 requesting gun be sent on receipt of letter. It included the letter, a copy of the check he cashed, and the ffls license/credential. This was all in case he didn't check with his bank, had his email stolen, and forgot who I was.
Timeline for a recap:
5/2 I emailed him inquiring about availability and how to purchase
5/3 He answered my email giving me details and saying to call him. Obviously his email works.
5/3 I called him and talked with him about it. He said he needed a check or money order sent to his address he sent in email and copy of ffl. Obviously his phone works.
5/5 emailed JR to inform him that I was sending him check and contacting ffl to send credentials. No response but this was just to inform him of what was to come.
5/6 mailed him a check and contacted my ffl with instructions on where to send ffl credentials and to list my name in subject line
5/9 ffl emailed JR with credentials and my name attached
5/9 JR receives check
5/11 JR cashes check
5/13 Check clears
5/15 Since check had cleared and ffl had sent info. Sent an email making sure he had all the information he needed, a courtesy. No response from JR.
5/28 Sent email requesting status. No response.
5/29 JR cashes check from another purchaser
6/3/,6/10 Sent email requesting status. No response
6/12 - after calling him many times that day he picks up but is in a large noisy crowd, says can't hear me doesn't know who I am etc but to call back morning of 6/13/
6/13 - Call him morning, noon and night no answer, no voicemail etc.
6/20 - JR posts on CB stating he is fighting looters, guns are safe.
6/22 - JR signs for certified letter details in beginning of this post.
6/27 - send him email attaching email ffl sent on 5/9 with credentials etc. No response.
6/28 - another purchaser receives gun from jr
From 5/13 on tried to call him no fewer than 4 times about everyday. No answer, no voicemail etc. I may have left out a few details as this is wearing me out. But enough details exist.

Was he fighting looters from 5/13 to 6/20. Not by timeline.
What is an appropriate amount of time to wait for shipment after paying for overnight shipping and sending all requested information asap?
Why couldn't he send gun anytime between 5/13 and 5/29 when he was cashing someone elses check for a gun?
Why did he only send out 1 gun after being home no later than 6/22 to sign for a certified letter?
Why did his email suddenly stop working for going on 1.5 months?
Why did he never answer phone except 1 short time after 100s of calls? Why does he not have voicemail?
Why does he not respond to FB when he is on it all the time???

^ thank you
Disappointing to say the least that when a site has a marketplace, it responds to a dispute in the way it did. It seems the only way you were able to make headway was some peer pressure.

I don't have a dog in this fight although I did finish reading his novel "Unintended Consequences" last week.

Does JR have a FFL? As I understand it he brought a batch of new guns and now is selling for profit. This activity would seem to put him within the definition of running a firearms business. If he does not have a FFL and is ripping off customers then he is courting a visit from the BATF if a angry customer(s) complain to them.

I keep expecting to pop back in to this thread and see that the gun has shipped or a refund was given. And here we still are, on the same merry go round.

My thought process has gone from "Hey, we don't know what kind of life crisis might be going on. We should at least give him a chance to respond."
Then he responded and I thought "Wow, that's a pretty crappy response, and it seems awfully fishy and disrespectful."
Now all I can think is "Boy, this dude's just a swindler, or really lazy. Either way, this is despicable behavior."

In initial phone conversation he said he was no longer an ffl but was. He is selling guns for a profit.
I had also pm’d him on here but of course nada.

Can’t wait for the July 4th FB post praising veterans and such from JR. Hey JR i am a veteran!!
Things are happening update when available.
Not contact that window has closed.

Its simple jr agreed to sell a gun and cashed the check 1.5 months ago and could not be contacted unless some bs excuse counts and did not deliver.
Not legal in any world.

Just a thought (I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV) what if you brought JR to small claims court in your state ?

Many small claims courts list limited jurisdictions, Montana does not, though that may still be the case. Do you, by any chance use a local bank for your checks ?

https://dojmt.gov/consumer/guide-to-small-claims-court/

Appreciate all suggestions. At this moment small claims isnt in the mix. If someone from another state is summoned to small claims in another state, doesnt show, has a judgement against them and doesn’t pay it? This is civil so not sure of the interstate recourse.
It could happen though.
Since the thread has 9 k plus views and only a few hundred ish posts you would have to think jr or someone who he knows is viewing it?
If so just deliver purchase asap!

I’d ask a reputable lawyer what to do.

You could also consider calling your local magistrate or small claims court and ask for guidance. Here you just call or drop by and ask a judge in person what to do and they’ll guide you if they know the answer.

I think it was Benjamin Franklin who said something to the effect that: Wise men learn from other’s experience

I may not be wise, but I sure am learning to use my local gun store or galleryofguns if I want a gun. Sorry for your troubles. Thanks for sharing them so others can learn.

I fail to understand why you were instructed to pay for next day shipping when it seems his intent was never to send it immediately.

I ship guns all the time and it’s not really complicated or time consuming. Odd...
