Glock 19 is best handgun ?

A Glock 19 is the best all around 9mm IMO. Not too big to conceal, not that small that it's difficult to shoot. Reliable, reasonably accurate, rugged and user friendly.

There are other 9mms out that that are better for some applications but the G19 is the best all around.

I'm much greener than most everyone on this board, but I don't believe there ever could be one perfect handgun. I used to think there was a perfect one for me, but that unicorn has also proven elusive. Thankfully, I'm not limited to just one handgun. There are a great many types, styles, sizes, etc. to choose from. So, I just seek out the best compromise and adapt to it.

No my friend. The G19 comes close...but..

The Colt 54z model my be the best gun out there. Slightly smaller than a Glock 26. Many claim to pocket carry it.

It's a all metal gun made of an alloy that makes it as light as any polymer gun.

Ok... I kid. No such gun exists ( not that I know of). I'm adding this note just so that no one actually starts asking for this gun model at their LGS.

The Glock 19 certainly is a good size all around gun (can be concealed, shoots well, big enough for duty) and has a hard earned reputation for reliability but best? It's about what you want.

For instance a similar size, still a good shooter and reliable, but with your metal trigger (I don't know if a Glock one, and don't see the point of swapping myself) would be the Sig 320 Compact, or better yet the X Compact.

In the polymer striker market there are a ton of good guns, Glock, FN, Sig, Beretta, Springfield, Smith and Wesson, Ruger, etc with really only minor differences in size, ergonomics and trigger pull, it's hard to go wrong just finding the one you like best

Glock19 is about the most usable handgun available. Easy to learn manual of arms, easy to manage recoil, shoots an economical round therefore lots of practice is possible. And there are plenty of them on the used market that a visit to a GSSF will bring up to date.

I have several, and I have carried others all over the world. I am happy with the G19.

If you could only own one gun the G19 may be the best.

On the other hand, I look at the G19 like the stand-up college defensive end who comes into the NFL as a "tweener". He's too small to play defensive end at the NFL level, and too slow and can't cover well enough to play linebacker.

As a duty gun the G19 is a little small, and as a concealment gun it is a little big. In spite of all the clamoring for S&W to release a G19 sized M&P (which they did with the 2.0 family), I always thought the S&W M&P sizes were better than the Glock sizes. The full size M&P is a better duty size than the G17 or G19 (note the arrival of the G19X and G45), and the (original) M&P Compact was a better concealment gun than the G19 and shooter than the G26.

19 is my least favorite glock in the safe.

Why specifically a metal trigger?

Not the best for me, I prefer DA/SA, hammer fired pistols. Aside from that, the G19 is a tad long for my taste in concealed carry.

I will give you that the Glock 19 is a good size for a "mid-caliber" handgun. But the "Best"...well not really for me. I have tried the various offerings by Glock, S&W, and Springfield Armory and found that I much prefer a number of other 9mm.s over the Glock. The CZ P01, CZ P07, the Ruger SR9c, along with the slightly larger, but no less comparable, SIG P229 and the Browning Hi-Power all come to mind. Decent size and weight, quality construction, reliable, durable, accurate, and ergonomic makes these the "Best" handguns to me!

What criteria are we supposed to use for the poll? Best at what? You only offer brands in the poll, not specific models but your post singles out one particular model.

All kidding aside from my above post.. i think that the CZ 75 B compact or the CZ PO1 may be the best one for me (when compared to the Glock 19 size class).

Much better ergonomics. Just as reliable. And I am starting to prefer hammer fired guns. (And this is from someone that has carried the 19 for over a decade.)

The Glock 19 was my favorite.. until I discovered the CZ PO1 and CZ compacts.

Yea, mine too, and Ive got a couple of them.

The 17 would be my choice. Followed by the 26.

Personally, I wouldnt mess with the insides of the gun, they work fine for me as they come, and most of the troubles Ive heard about come from aftermarket "upgrades".

A good set of night sights, and stippling the grip of some models with the less aggressive texture finishes is all I do.

If you get into the DA/SA game I really like the Walther P99, my dad has a P99 AS I was just looking at again this weekend, forgot how nice of a shooter that gun is

Glock 19 is small enough to conceal wearing summer attire.
Many options in 9mm ammo that penetrate 12-18'' and consistently expand.

If under a 10 round limit, Glock 19 is much less appealing.

While the P99 may be a DA/SA gun, one of the reasons many (myself included) choose DA/SA guns is to see a hammer.

I believe the Glock 19 is a great balance with capacity, size, and shoot-ability. I don't think it conceals all that well compared to other guns of a smaller size but one can conceal it well enough. Personally I shoot the G19 well enough to be effective with it and that's good enough for me. Others may have a different opinion.
