Preferred 1911 grips?

All mine have hogue wraparound grips. I keep all my original grips. I have GI grips, 2 Delta elite grips, I even have a set of factory colt rattlesnake skin grips. I just prefer the hogue

You know I get dizzy just looking at those grips!

Far out man!

Have tried a few different ones but like to go with either Pachmayrs (sometimes with the front strap removed and I prefer the ones with the Colt medallion), or the factory wood grips (really like the look and feel of the double diamond grips that came on my newer Colts). The Kim Ahrends' Rosewood skip checkered grips (on my TacSol .22 conversion), are also nice to look at as well as giving a solid feel to the grips.

In terms of utility, this is what I prefer.

Esthetically, I prefer custom inlaid grips.

I have been surprised and very impressed with the grips that came on my sig nickel rail

Which sig lists as “brown vector grips”.
When I first saw this 1911 at the gun show I thought the grips we’re unappealing and imagined I’d change them out shortly.... then I shot it! Holy cow the guy who designed these grips is a genius. The forward lift on the diagonal grooves means that every time the gun fires it is driven deeper into the web of your hand. If one happens to have an imperfect grip on the first shot these panels mechanically improve your grasp of the gun with each shot instead of your grasp deteriorating with each subsequent shot. I hope that description makes sense.
I still don’t care much for the brown but the function makes them the best grips I’ve ever tried. I’d never encountered a grip that actually gave me a mechanical advantage beyond just something grippy to hang onto.
If anyone knows who makes a similar design with more models I’m interested.

Been thinking of getting some rubber hogue grips for my SR1911, the wood just doesn't have the grip I'm looking for. What do you guys like?
I have a set of Hogue rubber finger groove grips and a set of Pachmyre rubber finger groove grips on my 1911's. I can't really tell any difference between the different brands. They both increase the circumference of the grip a bit... but I like the larger grip for my long hands. The finger groves increase the surface area of your fingers that contacts the grip which gives me much better control of the gun with a lighter grip. If you haven't guessed I really like finger groove rubber grips... but I have several friends that despise my grips because they are too big for their girly hands which makes it MUCH harder for them to hold on to my 1911's.

P.S. I also have finger groove rubber grips on my Beretta 92 which is even more of a hand full than a 1911 and Hogue finger groove rubber grips came on my Desert Eagle L5... both of which i REALLY like.

I really like the houge panel grips. Not the wrap around ones, just the rubber panels. The are a little thinner than most wood or VZ grips, which I like. I need to give some thin G10 grips a try at some point, just haven't had a chance.

Skinny Aluma Grips work for me if you go that route buy the screws and the bushing with them they are different.

Although I like the looks of custom checkered wood or stag, I use Pachmayr on my series 70. Worked the best for the old competition days, and now for carry. Tried some different grips, but have stuck with these for forty + years.

Depends on the 1911.
I'm ok with smooth for the most part and like pretty wood have a couple like this and my Gold Cup has smooth real ivory. I have a couple 1/2 checkered wood neither is real sharp ie factory XSE Combat Elite and I have a couple g10 aggressive checkered on my 10mm Ruger and Para double stack

Another vote for LOK, way cheaper then VZ, with the same quality!

they're the other company I'm thinking about getting my next set of 1911 grips from ( "golf-ball" patterns which lines up with the VZ gunners in design).

I'm also having to fight against my own weirdness to keep from forking over the $125 for their specialty pattern grips for the "Cold War Commemorative" CZ75. $125 is just too dang much to pay for a punchline. Especially since I can get repros of the original "Waffle" pattern grips (which would better fit the project/gag I have in mind) in resin or wood for about half that.

Thanks! Part of a limited edition from Colt's Custom Gun Shop it was accurized, had a tuned action, MMC adjustable rear sight, Gold Cup trigger, and a bright nickel plated finish. One of the first things I did was put on the grips (minus the front strap connecing piece), and swap out the mainspring housing with a flat Pachmayr one. Always has felt just right with those two things on it and I have pretty much used it that way for over 40 years.

My only current 1911 (Kimber Classic) wears a set of wooden Brolin wood grips gifted to my by a cousin, and skateboard tape on the front strap. I love the medium-dark reddish wood and the carved rose in the center makes the grips fairly unique.

My Hi Powers run thin black Micarta grips from Brownell's.

My CZs all have G10 grips from various sources. I guess I'm not super loyal to any one material or configuration though despite my fairly large hands I do tend to go for thinner grips than stock most of the time.
